T.Goat Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Will DCS:A-10 support forward air bases on straight stretches of highways? I know this isn't really in the A-10's current role, but I think it's a big part of it's past. Might be helpful for those looking to recreate a little Cold War action.
T.Goat Posted July 16, 2010 Author Posted July 16, 2010 Was that just a stupid question, or does no one know?

Nate--IRL-- Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Not a silly question at all. Even in Lock On there is the ability to land and take off from roadways anywhere on the map. A FARP for A-10s would be a nice addition to that. I believe it was attempted for Flanker 2.5 for the Mig-29, but never was anything other than cosmetic. wickedpenguin Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 For some real road-runway action, what we need is DCS: Gripen! :D 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

roob Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 any fighter can operate from concrete roads, not just a gripen! Sure! But just nowhere near as effective ;) My DCS stream [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Past broadcasts, Highlights Currently too much to do... But watch and (maybe) learn something :)
159th_Falcon Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 any fighter can operate from concrete roads, not just a gripen! Nope, not just any fighter can. For example certain fighters would literally tear up the concrete plates by the hot air stream from there engines. Also there landing gear may not be able to handle all the bumbs, holes and whatever else may be on a public road. Then there's the thing of weight to consider, to heavy and the roads may not be able to handle the strain. And how about wingspan? Public roads can be very narrow when compared to a runway. Then there's something called FOD, Foreign Object Damage, i bet the grippen has some kind of system/design feature that makes sure (big) particles sucked up in the inlet don't end up in the compressor. Not every fighter will have this. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] The keeper of all mathematical knowledge and the oracle of flight modeling.:)
vrv Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Just use the gun to make a clearing and land wherever you want (As long as its flat.) Did the A-10 operate via FARP runways in the desert or road during ODS? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] EtherealN: I will promptly perform a sex change and offer my hand in marriage to whomever
