Succellus Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 The manual actually mention it will teach how but it actually doesn t which is quite deceiving.:( In my permanetly meagre skills i haven t found how to "side step" strafe" I.E have my nose pointing somewhere while i move 90 degree from that direction. power5 Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 Tilt the direction you want to slip and use rudder to keep nose on target. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Aaron i7 2600k@4.4ghz, GTX1060-6gb, 16gb DDR3, T16000m, Track IR5 BS2-A10C-UH1-FC3-M2000-F18C-A4E-F14B-BF109
Frederf Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 Just tilt your lift vector to the side and don't drop the nose. Above about 100 kmph it'll be impossible to keep the airframe from weathervaning into the wind.
Succellus Posted September 6, 2010 Author Posted September 6, 2010 You mean cyclic (stick) right for example and rudder left ? Frederf Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 You mean cyclic (stick) right for example and rudder left ? The cyclic adjusts your lift vector. Technically the lift vector is what you care about.
PhoenixBvo Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Technically the lift vector is what you care about. Correct but not complete. You have 6 degrees of freedom. The lift vector only determines 3. Your attitude is at least as important. That means you need to control the 3 associated moments (= torque) as well. In the case of counteracting the weathercocking effect from a strafing motion, you need to apply a moment about the rotor axis. That's done using your pedals. In the case of a coaxial helicopter it collectively increases pitch (and therewith torque) on one rotor while decreasing pitch on the other rotor. The net effect on your lift vector is zero while creating a resultant torque to counteract the weathercocking moment. Of course this explanation simplifies somewhat as it doesn't consider the cross coupling effects that even coaxial rotorcraft are subject to. Succellus Posted September 10, 2010 Author Posted September 10, 2010 Thank you all. I don t know how usefull is it in combat but its really a cool feature especially on movies. sweinhart3 Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 actually I have dodge missles on more than one occasion with just a few meters of sideways movement. Doesnt always work but its far better than sitting there hoping you dont get hit. Nice thing about it is I managed to keep my vhiker on target while dodging his missle. Not likely the best avoidance technique though. Intel i7 990X, 6GB DDR3, Nvidia GTX 470 x2 SLI, Win 7 x64 http://picasaweb.google.com/sweinhart
