VirusAM Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 As title of the topic....i would like to buy a new cpu, by AMD but i don't know if it is worth to spend more then 300 euros for a Phenom X6 1090t, 200 for a Phenom X6 1055t or save money and spend 160 or less for a Am3 Phenom X4 955 3.2....or Am3 Phenom X4 965 3.2 black edition? I come from an intel core duo e6600 2.4 Ghz but i don't want to go for an i7 becouse of the price, so i know that i have to change also motherboard and probably ram, but i' m really new to the AMD world. So the 6 cores of the x6 are really used and give a better FPS or is better to buy the best x4 processor avaible? Can i overclock AMD without problems as for my e6600?or definitely is better to stay with intel and buy a medium i7? If i stay with intel the socket is the same of the e6600? and another question, with an am3 motherboard that i need for amd, with dd3 memories, i can use also older ddr2 memories? zakobi Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 (edited) The 955 should be more than fine. Besides it got unlocked multiplier for easier OC You could also consider a i5 750/760 which doesn't have unlocked multiplier, but can easy get to 4GHz on air. Edited October 9, 2010 by zakobi
MTFDarkEagle Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 Go for the 955. It's well enough, and it's very good overclockable. Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread

DAN Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 Hey bros I have a Intel®core i7 cpu 920 at 2.67 Ghz, is there a way to increase its performance?
zakobi Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Hey bros I have a Intel®core i7 cpu 920 at 2.67 Ghz, is there a way to increase its performance? OC... Should be able to reach 4+ GHz, by lowering the multiplier, but raising the bus speed. I will recommend you search around here.
marz26 Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 i suggest an amd phenom II..6 cores..its much better than i7..and its cheaper..then an ati radeon card 5870.. allen pest control
SAM77 Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 wait for i7-2500k Indeed or i5-2400 looks to be a winner from this. http://www.anandtech.com/show/3871/the-sandy-bridge-preview-three-wins-in-a-row/11 Add to that the power savings. WOW!!!!!!!! Wait until Sandy Bridge I will :) Spoiler Intel i7 14700F | 64GB G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB | MSI RTX 4060 Gaming X 8G | WD Black SN770 2TB | Sound Blaster Audigy RX | MSI B760 Tomahawk WIFI | Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS Flight Pack | TrackIR 5 | Windows 11 Home |

I think about to get a new system. Even a new CPU. I think about to get the PhenomII X6 1055T. It has 2,8 GHz per core. So my question. would it be worth it, considering Multicore usage of the Game...if exist already? BlackSharkDen | BSD Discord | DCS Tutorial Collection

You need something with the highest IPC and clocking. DCS/FC respond almost linearly to clock speed. the 1055/1090 are actually slower than the 955/960/970 by a significant margin in gaming. They only beat them in heavily multithreaded apps that can take advantage of 6 cores (encoding/video/music editing etc). Even they only tie with the 4 core i7s because of lesser IPC/clockspeed. Your best bet is wait for sandy bridge (I have my eye on the i7-2500k) or now the i5-760 is the best buy (but dead socket in 3 months). So I may be go for the PhenomII X4 965 which provides 3,4 Ghz. BlackSharkDen | BSD Discord | DCS Tutorial Collection

Bad idea nobody use 6 cores, ATI in power processing is much behind Intel, 5870 is not even a good GTX 460 1gh in performance, it take a real beating from gtx 460 FTW, and take a beating from a GTX hawk for example. ATI/AMD is good only if you are in a thight budget.
