BKLronin Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 To me, it seems ED got it rather spot on. I guess they spend a lot of time in researching how it sounds in RL. Thats why I´m very doubtful when it comes to sound modding. I spend myself over two weeks with sound modding and It´s really hard to find out how the real sound is like. Acoustic is a very complicated topic and videos aren´t a good source of audio material (position, angle, speed, microphone, etc) What we hear in the videos are mostly bullets that impact the ground rather than the GAU 8 itself. I suppose ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

I suppose ;) As someone who has heard the sound of the gun first hand it is an awesome sound! Of course I've never been in the cockpit but the range at Moody AFB is close enough that you can see the birds doing their gun runs. You actually hear the sound twice...the first sound you hear is the sound of the bullets hitthing the ground, the second is the sound of them leaving the aircraft. Awesome!!! Back in the mid 90s when we first started flying the A-10 out of Moody the town near by called and questioned the base if the range had moved closer because they were use to hearing the F-16's 20mm which is quiet compared to the GAU-8! v303d Fighter Group Discord | Virtual 303d Fighter Group Website
Apples Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 my gattling audio mod is very close to those arma 2 audios as well. arma2 engine has more freedom to play with audios and addons though. a10c we are limited, ie third party modding. Apples Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Hmm wonder if mod man can put these files into the separate sub folders were they need to go. Doesn't work for me the way he says to do. It just puts all the files in the effects folder. They need to go into different sub folders to overwrite. Same with the sdef. Unless i am doing it wrong.... Some original Files have different Names than the ones in the Mod i.e. _GAU8begin is now something like GAU8CannonIn etc. I dont know which one replaces the other :dunno: Win7 64bit Ultimate / MSI MPOWER Z97 / i7 4790K@4,4GHz / Thermalright Silver Arrow IB-E / EVGA GTX980 Superclocked ACX 2.0 / 16 GB Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR3-1600 / Creative SB X-Fi / Sandisk Extreme Pro 480GB SSD / 1TB WD Black Caviar HD / Thermaltake Toughpower Grand 1050W / Be Quiet Base 800 / TM Warthog HOTAS / TrackIR 5
debuffer Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 any1 got a solution yet on how to get the mod to work?
acerus77 Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Hmm.... there are some Sound Files you can change as they have the same Name and Format. Others (original Files) have the same Name like the modded ones but are in ogg format... and some have completley different Names. Maybe this Mod was build on Beta 4? Just a guess... Would like to use this Mod but for now i will wait what Diveplane says about it. The Sound in the Video is definatley nice.... Will wait :music_whistling: Win7 64bit Ultimate / MSI MPOWER Z97 / i7 4790K@4,4GHz / Thermalright Silver Arrow IB-E / EVGA GTX980 Superclocked ACX 2.0 / 16 GB Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR3-1600 / Creative SB X-Fi / Sandisk Extreme Pro 480GB SSD / 1TB WD Black Caviar HD / Thermaltake Toughpower Grand 1050W / Be Quiet Base 800 / TM Warthog HOTAS / TrackIR 5
debuffer Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 (edited) well i got it to work when i backed up the whole sounds folder, then just copy passed all of diveplanes files to every folder in the dcs sounds folder, sounds stupid and really felt stupid when i did this but at least i got the awesome sounds to work :D edit : what i mean is that i copyed all the files in the diveplanes effects folder to every folder in dcs a-10´s effect folders, and the same with sdef folder/files. acerus77 Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Thanks, will give it a try. Did the Gun Sound change? But the installation....i cant believe that this is the Way it has to be done:notify: EDIT: I have now some sounds (i.e. switches) which are played 2 times, which was something i expected... So i will wait for an better Installation Method. BKLronin Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 I´ve also checked the soundpack today and I personally think that it is improving much since ED has improved a lot of sound since Blackshark. The new tank sounds with engine an the chains are awesome already for example just as the gun and different heli rotor sounds. Good job ED. Most of the effect a sound mod can offer these day are psychological (like pacebos ;) ) This is my personal opinion and isn´t meant to effect the success of the pack nor to hype ED. Solid work, Diveplane. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
acerus77 Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Most of the effect a sound mod can offer these day are psychological (like pacebos ;) ) I dont think that this Mod is some kind of Placebo as you can hear a great Change in the Soundenvironment. I agree: the Sound ED offers is great! But it is also nice to have Community Members which made such nice Mods. In the End everything depends on personal Taste, and what sounds realistic for yourself. So you are glad to have the Choice  Win7 64bit Ultimate / MSI MPOWER Z97 / i7 4790K@4,4GHz / Thermalright Silver Arrow IB-E / EVGA GTX980 Superclocked ACX 2.0 / 16 GB Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR3-1600 / Creative SB X-Fi / Sandisk Extreme Pro 480GB SSD / 1TB WD Black Caviar HD / Thermaltake Toughpower Grand 1050W / Be Quiet Base 800 / TM Warthog HOTAS / TrackIR 5
