Hi,

I recently downloaded the A-10C Beta and its really impressing. The only thing that bothers me, is the bad performance on my PC. I play on "Medium"-settings, with Textures and Viewing Distance on "High".

Especially near ground the FPS are dropping below 20 (especially at take-off) and if I fire the GAU8 for the first time, the screen freezes for about ~1-2 seconds. I think some of this is related to my low vram.

So I'am thinking about to upgrade my PC to get more FPS.

My configuration at the moment:

Win7 64-Bit

Core 2 Duo E6300 @ 2.4Ghz

4GB DDR2-800 Ram

GeForce 9800GTX+ w. 512MB vram

Will a new graphics card, a GTX460 w. 1024MB increase, my fps and reduce the lag? Or is my problem more CPU-related, since my Core 2 Duo isn't the fittest anymore?

Any suggestions?

You may want to upgrade your CPU. I would recommend a Core 2 Quad Q8400. A GTX 460 will do wonders. I had a friend who went from a Radeon 4830 (comperable to your current card) to a GTX 460 and his FPS in cockpit in the Engine-Startup training missions tripled and he now averages 30-40 FPS with most settings on High.

Lower your view distance to medium or even low. That will do wonders for your FPS.

Your CPU is definitely your biggest bottleneck right now. Up until 3 days ago, my setup was this:

Win7 64 Ultimate

ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe

AMD 6400+ 3.2GHz Dual-Core

4Gb Corsair XMS2

8800GTS 512Mb

I was able to run most settings on med - high and have everything be smooth except in real dense areas.

I have sense upgraded to a GTX470 1280Mb card and saw a moderate increase in performance. But like everyone has said repeatedly, sims are mainly CPU intensive because there is so much going on "behind the scenes" for the systems and avionics.

For about the same price as a GTX 460, you can get a AMD Phenom 3.5GHz Quad-Core, or whatever the intel equivalent is (i'm not an intel person ;) ) and i think you will see a much bigger performance increase.

I'm not sure how overclockable the Duo's are, but i know i can get my 3.2 OC'ed to close to 3.6GHz with a good air cooler and close to 4.0 with water. So you might be able to spend $50-$70 on a nice cooler and get that 2.4 up to a 3.0.

Please note that as has been stated over and over and over again in the forums this is an unoptimized Beta and performance is not indicative of the final release.

Exactly. Hard concept for most to grasp. :P

i wana see the final product. i got i7 980x, 6Gig Ram, SATA3 SSD, HD5870, and i have to say that the performance is so-so, still comparable to FC2..

i have everything on high except water (low), and jeez i got more than the recommended spec... my FPS has been 5-60

Welcome to the world of beta testing. I've beta tested many games over the years and trust me, I've seen worse get better over time.

I've also seen publishing companies push out titles with more bugs and in a worse state as a final build.

got the game, ordered trackIR5 and getting a HOTAS, not sure what, the TM Warthog is coming, havent seen it yet, and don't know finnish/european price for it yet, or i might get Saitek x65-f but not really sure about the force sens stick, any comments on that?, Already ordered the x65-f for 380€ but it takes 4-8 weeks to come, and order can be canceled. So what should i get, the TM warghog or saitek x65-f.

the buttonary (what the hell word is this, nevermind) on the two sticks is pretty much the same.

the throttle off-> idle thing on TM stick seems interesting, does it acutally work whit a-10 (probably yes, but still asking confirmation :) ). not that interested in the TM throttle bay buttonary, they can be clicked in the cockpit. and the saitek throttle has more stuff in the actual throttle handles. in the other hand, i don't have any need for those extra buttons, both sticks looks fantastic.

I am new on the forums, but i have played IL-2 and DCS blackshark, so im not new on flightsims. Got saitek cyborg X stick ATM, huge failure

I have only had the A10c beta about a week but I was comparing the external view of the A10c and fc2 A10 on the runway .

The A10c aircraft graphics are much better than FC2, the A10c Warthog is absolutely stunning, the best I have ever seen.

Stunning graphics are not free, I realize its Beta but this Sim screams for a quad core cpu and ATI 5870. Even with this setup your gonna need to turn some stuff down. High AA and high view distance are two big frame rate killers. They are giving us options to suit your preference. I would rather have maximum options than them artifically set limits so that people won't complain about not being able to run the sim "Maxed Out"

Sincerely, IMHO. ATI ain t the way to go.

You better SLI 2 460 than any fancy ATI ATM. Especially if you got an Intel architecture. Since Nvidia is allied to Intel, you can bet it will run smoother than ATI.

In all comparison i ve seen so far ATI is a waste of money no matter how big it is, and actual chips AMD won t hold long in time, i mean you ll have to switch it sooner than Intel.

Which is a pity, i ve worked ATI/AMD so far, and i like giving a push to the underdog.

I m building a PC just for the hog, but with a long term view.

Mobo up to hold an extreme edition and capable of holding 480 SLI and the like. This should give me 3 or even 4 years of easy life.

Right now more than 2 VGU is a waste, and will probably remain so till the end of time, unless you want to rum 36 monitors and have a full cockpit.

But right now my aim is a 930, a 460 and 4gig 1600.

HaF 922, Asus rampage extreme 3 gene, I7 950 with Noctua D14, MSI gtx 460 hawk, G skill 1600 8gb, 1.5 giga samsung HD.

Track IR 5, Hall sensed Cougar, Hall sensed TM RCS TM Warthog(2283), TM MFD, Saitek pro combat rudder, Cougar MFD.

Yes, the throttle off to idle does work on the TM Warthog. If you are looking to choose between that and the x65, I would say you will be much happier with the TM Warthog.
