The Gauntlet

Hey that was some nice snowy atmosphere during the landing!

I also made a mission but something completely different. It is a mission where you penetrate enemy territory with lots of enemy air defence. I created it for myself to have a very intense flying experience and practice evasive maneuvers and that sure worked out :). Hereby I share it and present to you:

The Gauntlet

"Today is your turn to run the gauntlet.

As part of the initiation rite of the squadron you have just been deployed to, the purpose of The Gauntlet simulator scenario is to familiarize pilots with flying the aircraft under pressure, in this case night-time low-level flight and under constant enemy fire.

You are to infiltrate enemy terrain trough a canyon which is heavily defended with AAA, MANPADS and the occasional APC. On top of the mountains around the canyon are numerous SAM sites. Whatever you do, do not rise above the canyon walls once inside it. You are to engage a high-value target with rockets and cannon deep inside the mountains and exfiltrate back to base.

If you make it, you earn your rank amongst the best DCS A10 Beta pilots the world has ever seen.

After takeoff, Fly to waypoint 2 and before you reach it drop below 300ft AGL. You will find a river which you will follow upstream along your fligh plan. At his point make sure your CMS is setup and weapon profiles are configured. Try to stay below 300ft AGL and preferably lower untill you reach waypoint 20 or you will be toast even sooner.

Expect contact with enemy forces from waypoint 4 onwards. Be ready to anticipate on enemy fire and do not fly in a straight line. Keep jinking the aircraft and actively dodge incoming fire. Maintain situational awareness at all times and stick to the river as close as possible. Do not bother to engage enemies, you are heavily outnumbered.

Be careful at waypoint 8 marked CAUTION in the CDU where the river ends and you make a sharp turn to turn back in the canyon at waypoint 9.

At waypoint 11 you will find an enemy safehouse where enemy generals are suspected to hold a meeting tonight. A couple of rocket hits and some cannon should do it.

Upon good hits on target follow your flight plan back to base and take your well deserved beer.

Think you are tough? Prove it!"

Definitely downloading when I get home. I have made myself a nice mission with some enemy, tanks, AAA, battleship, 3mi-28, 3ka50 and then 2 wingmen, and a flight of cobras. Get a huge FPS hit though and its unplayable. I am going to try to tweak some stuff, but its my first mission with any real detail. I think I have too many badguys. By the time I get locked to a target, my friends have already taken out half of the 30+ targets.

It seems that some units hit fps more then others. I have had missions where I could just keep stuffing more and more AI but sometimes it will slow a lot by even looking in the direction of the units. Other downside of lots of units is lots of smokes and smokes are also bad for fps.

My mission doesnt have much detail just lots of stuff shooting at you :). its not really a serious attempt since I am kind of affraid they will stop working somewhere down the line and you have to start over again anyway.

EDIT: Suggesting everyone just post his missions, crappy or not, in this thread. Might be interesting stuff. Whatever you have concocted just put it up for grabs I'd say :)

Can't seem to find the right place to post user made missions, so I'll try here. :)

This is a short and sweet landing practice mission, 6 minutes of simple fun. :)

Many thanks Kylania, I love the atmosphere that the snow and sky creates. I bet the pilot has "Driving home for Christmas" playing on his iPod in that cockpit.

Does anyone notice that the Pilots Log Book is not updated (with the newest kills) when flying/completing a user made mission. Is there something I am doing wrong?
