Hi,

I would like to purchase DCS: A-10C Warthog, but I'm not sure that my PC configuration is ok. I've 4go RAM, the graphic card is an Asus EAH 5870, but my processor is only a E8500 Dual core with 3.16Mghz. Is it ok to play the game with close to full details?

What kind of FPS are you getting with your rig? I am running an e8400@3.84 GHz, 4 gb Corsair dominator pc8500, and a 285GTX on Win7 64 bit but seem to drop to 20 FPS frequently. I have shadows on low, blur on, civ traff off, visibility on high, most everything else on medium and 2x MSAA with HGR on. 20 FPS seems pretty low for the system :(

I am building a new system right now (I build every 2-3 years). I've been ready to do it all summer, but the release of A-10 has given me a little push. Even though it's Beta, I found that the Video card seems to be the limiting factor when you enable all the eye candy. I have less RAM than most of you (2gb) and only a dual core e8500 @ 3.6, and it runs like butter when I lower all the settings and run at 12x10, even at the Nevada range. Thing is I want to crank all the eye candy up and run at 19x12, so guess what my next purchase is.....probably one of the new 6900's that come out in 2 more weeks.

I'll be installing A-10 on an SSD this weekend so I'll report back how quick load screens and program starts go.

Would love some feedback from anyone who has a 5870 right now....Can you put everything on high with a single card or will I need to crossfire?

You want to purchase a graphics card ? CPU is limiting the performance guys. 4 year old cards can show DCS with max settings and 8AA/16AF. You should rather OC your CPU to >4Ghz which is easy with an E8400/E8500.

And no need for crossfire at all ! Again, you need a higher clocked CPU.

I have a HD5850@HD5870 but I get the same performance with a 8800gt or even a HD3870.

I got a Q8200 (4 x 2,33 Ghz), 4 Gig Ram, Ati 5770 (1 GB), and for the most part the performance of A-10C is about on par with KA 50. Can play at 1900 x 1200 with all the bells and whistles on. However, once I enable TGP and select my Mav's, FPS drop like a rock - in particular over dense areas.

I dont see how you can be: my rig is only getting good FPS (~30-40) on MEDIUM settings.

I think your GFX Card is a bit weak...although CPU Power actually is used mostley by DCS, isn´t it? I´ve a way more low powered CPU and only 2 cores...but as I mentioned already get to 25-35 FPS as well.....everythings on High..no Civ Traffic. So their might another part of ur rick been responsible for your FPS on Medium seetings.

Well my GPU is defineately the bottleneck and I will fix that come January. Still a GTX 260 is not that far above a 9800GTX2 AFAIK.

People claim CPU is important in sims, but DCS does not utilize 4 cores to their fullest. Wish DCS could tell us what the most important factor in FPS performance is with their engine.

Mine has lots of slow downs with med settings blur HDR and 8xMSAA. I think I am going to try turning down the MSAA. I turned it off to just see how bad it was and its very ugly.

I dont believe so that the current CPU is the bottleneck...more the GFX card...or the HD.

Consider that the X2 is not been used on your card.

I recommend you to get (if that is possible) a GFX card which is way better than yours. May be borrow one by a friend, if thats possible, like a GTX 285 and make a test. The reason is quite simple. Your current GFX card is thwarting your CPU, I am sure that you´ll get the same FPS with High settings then. Buying a new CPu might cause the opposite result...eventually less FPS than you already now have...try it out.

My system is well ballanced, means the GFX is not thwarting the cpu...same otherways. So I´ve quite good FPS comparing to some i7 systems.

Easy to test different CPU effects. Turn off cores and down clock. A faster CPU would not cause lower FPS either, it would make no change if the GPU is the bottleneck. Increasing everything else will do nothing if you keep the same bottleneck. I would definitely find a loaner to test if you can though, thats a good idea.

CPU is fine. Need a new GPU, that I am aware, just surprised that A10 would leverage the GPU so well that I would see a major improvement.

A "loner" GPU? That's rich, where would one find that????

Thats actually a logical issue. your current CPU is way faster than ur GPU. Means when the CPU already finished its calculations so its still waiting for GPU dada....thats causing your "bad" FPS. So balance your system and you´ll get good fps.

Interesting to know that MemphisBelle obviously got considerable better performance on his DualCore @3,1, compared to my QuadCore @2,33, even we both utilize a Radeon 5770 (1 GB). So I'd suppose it's rather a CPU issue.

Anyway, I'll wait for the release version before considering upgrades. After all the A-10C runs smooth enough already if I refrain from enabling TGP.

Is Multicore support actually already support in this beta? Please consider that FPS drops while flying over huge cities. But the common FPS is as mentioned.

Running a Duo Core E5400 2.7 Ghz overclocked to 3.7 Ghz, 4gigs of DDR3 at 1066, GTS 450 w/1 gig of DDR5. Running at 1680x1050...highest my LCD will go.

All in game settings to Max.

I get 25 to 30 on the ground and 35 to 45 in air depending on terrain, city and what not.

FPS drop or large delays and stutters when Smoke is visible or doing quick descents.

The biggest FPS killers on my rig seems to be burning vehicles, and the flood lights in cockpit. The green floodlight robs me or 8 to 10 frames a sec

I'll have to watch the fps counter & report back. But i don't recall it dropping below 30, it may well drop lower but i haven't noticed any stutter. We've got the same cpu & ram, and my gfx card should be slower, but my 260 has always done me proud. Here's my game gfx config secton..

["color"] = "32",

["heatBlr"] = 1,

["resolution"] = "1680x1050",

["water"] = 1,

["fullScreen"] = false,

["visibRange"] = "High",

["aspect"] = 1.6,

["haze"] = 1,

["MSAA"] = 3,

["textures"] = 2,

["height"] = 1050,

["HDR"] = true,

["civTraffic"] = "medium",

["lights"] = 2,

["clutterMaxDistance"] = 0,

["scenes"] = "high",

}, -- end of ["graphics"]

I'm also on Win7 x64 & i have a x-fi sound card & a SSD.

I guess the GTX260 is a fair bit stronger than the 9800. But i'm running good fps wit the above config.

strage.......i;m running the sim on xp32...with GTX285 and I7920 with 7 giga ram but only 3 available because of my OS TEXTURES-HIGH.VISIBLE RANGE-MEDIUM .WATER-HIGH.SCENERY-HIGH.SHANDOWS-LOW.ANTIALLIASING-16Q.TSSAA-ON.HDR-ON...1680-1050 resolution...so in open space i've got 30 fps and above...but when im running a mission i've got 25 and below sometimes 30 sometimes 17 fps...not good enough..i guess will have to wait for the optimization of the game----OOOOPS almost i've never had a chance to enjoy the scenery of NEVADA cause i had a very BAD performance...especially when i choose NELLIS AIRPORT..i have to set the textures to medium to run it but after 15 minutes i will have bad antiallising problem...

I've been doing fine running on Medium settings, getting around 30-40 fps. My set up is:

2x 2.66GHz Xeon (4 cores, total)

4 GB of slow ECC RAM.

9800 GTX w/ 512 MB of VRAM

Windows 7 64 bit

... other things too...

The main bottleneck I've noticed is my videocard. The sim is very stuttery and gets around 20-25 fps with the Textures on High. If I turn Textures down to Medium it runs very well!

My conclusion: I'm probably running out of VRAM. I experience similar things in FSX and X-Plane if I try to max out the texture settings. :music_whistling:

So while CPU is very important for a sim like this, so is the GPU and GPU VRAM!

--NoJoe

Also... Wow, this sim is awesome!

When you have a powerful cpu, then it becomes gpu limited, like the beta is on my system right now. But then it hasn't been optimized yet.

It is clearly visible on running graphs of my gpu (gtx480) and cpu, a 980x and 6-8-6 memory at 1600 Mhz. The 980x/Mushkin combination is not even bothered by this game, but the gpu goes to 99% quite a bit. Conclusion: probably no LOD management yet.

Everything is at max.

Hey guys, saw the discussion here and thought I'd ask for some advice on getting new hardware.

Current setup is SLI'd 8800GT's, Athlon 3800+ DC (First gen dual core... bought this rig ages ago) and whatever RAM its been so long I can't tell.

I'm tossing CPU/Mobo/Video/RAM and replacing with with a AM3 socket AMD mobo, at least 4gb DDR3 1600 RAM, and a RADEON HD 5770. I'm torn between (due to budget constraints) a dual core proc with higher clock rates, or a quad core with lower clock rates... or go in between and get one of the X3 processors. Any recommendations? my budget is going to be around 450 dollars, unless Black Friday turns out to be completely awesome.
