I use buttkicker, who works great with dcs, except when i am in the cockpit and look left, no more vibration. ahead, right, behind, all is good but not left, the vibrations disappear.

Thx

Interesting, Butt kicker uses the Low frequencies to generate its rumble (?) correct? Could you test in cockpit during startup, before flight and in flight and see if you can pinpoint where in the process that the butt kicker starts to rumble? This should help pinpoint the sound file the Butt Kicker is getting most of its input from.

That will help me dig a bit deeper.

Hi Nate

After some test :

ON THE RUNWAY

Engine rumble - looking forward - normal rumble

- looking right - (normal high rumble)

- looking behind - high rumble

- looking left - NO RUMBLE

Rolling rumble - looking forward - normal rumble

- looking right - (normal high rumble)

- looking behind - high rumble

- looking left - NO RUMBLE

IN FLIGHT

Engine rumble - looking forward - normal rumble

- looking right - (normal high rumble)

- looking behind - high rumble

- looking left - NO RUMBLE

Canon GAU rumble - looking forward - ok

- looking right - ok

- looking behind - ok

- looking left - OK

Hope this help

Thx

I can't seem to replicate it. Before we go further, please check that the BK is using both Left and right input channels from your computer. Check cables, config settings etc.

What I want you to do is isolate the sound file that the BK gets most of its low freq input from.

Can I ask you to go to \Sounds\Effects in the dcs folder and rename PlaneWind.ogg to PlaneWind2.ogg to see if this removes most of the rumble in cockpit during flight. If so, play PlaneWind, in mediaplayer and shift the balance in mediaplayer from left to right.

I'm gonna steal this thread now since I have a problem using ButtKicker in DCS A-10C beta (current beta 4)

When I first plugged the buttkicker in I used audio spliter to get sound from front speaker output into headset and buttkicker, and this worked fine. Then I found that I could also use centre/subbwoofer output for the buttkicker so then I connected headset into front speaker output and buttkicker into centre/subfoower output and this works fine with FC2 and DCS BS but not in DSC A-10C beta 4 and I have tried every available option but I simply cannot get any sound output from anything other then front speak output.

My sound card is Creative X-Fi Xtremegamer PCI and I also have enabled onboard sound and use that for TeamSpeak3 so I don't get any rumble when people talk. I also tried disabling onboard sound and that didn't help, only sound I get from 5.1 speaker setup in DCS A-10C beta 4 is from front speaker output.

I know I could use a splitter and split the sound from front speaker into headset and buttkicker but since buttkicker works in FC2 and DCS BS using centre/subwoofer I don't understand why it doesn't work in DCS A-10C?

PS: I also tried plugging headset into rear speaker output while game is running and I get no sound, also no sound from centre/subfoofer output so no wonder buttkicker is not working... so is this an issue with Beta 4 or is there something I am missing?

I can only select 5.1 for speaker configuration, there is nothing I can see that would force stereo sound into all speakers. When I listen to mp3 for example there is sound from all 3 outputs (FrontLeft/FrontRight, RearLeft/RearRight and Centre/Subb) but not from DCS A-10C... when in game sound is only through FrontLeft/FrontRight output.

EDIT: ah bugger, so currently DCS A-10C beta 4 is only in stereo? That would explain it... do you know will this be changed for the final release?

May I add Nate, I have found such setings to enable stereo sound to be output as 4 channel, 5.1 ro 7.1 and it's called X-Fi CMSS-3D and there's a tab: Upmix Mode with 2 options: Stereo Surround and Stereo Expand but when I turn Upmix On it works for sounds in menu but not in game

If FC2 and DCS BS and DCS A-10C are all in stereo only it is weird that I can hear sound throug all outputs in FC2 and DCS BS but not in DCS A-10C, it doesn't make sense...

So Nate, how is your buttkicker connected?

You may be getting output from all channels, but that is your sound card or driver software doing that. The output from the 3 sims is 2 channel only. You can test it if you like. There is no front - rear sound information, just left - right information. If I remember correctly FC1 and Lock On did have true surround sound.

BTW I don't own a buttkicker.

Nate, thanks for helping out, I am to assume this has to be bug in DCS A-10C beta as I've tried absolutely everything... with menu music there is sound output to rear channels as well as centre/sub but in game there is none and sound comes out of front speaker output only... every other game I have I tried it works fine and only with DCS A-10C it doesn't work... I also tried reinstalling the game and direct X thinking I might have messed some files but still this does not help.

Here's a question for anyone for X-Fi Xtremegamer sound card and WIndows 7 64bit and DCS A-10C... can you tell me if when you run the game with speaker configuration as 5.1 (or 7.1) you get sound output from rear speakers socket and/or centre/sub? I have latest drivers for the X-Fi Xtremegamer and I need to know if my issue can be replicated on anyone elses PC with same operating system, version of the game and same sound card... you don't need to have any extra speakers for 5.1 all you need is headset or headphones and plug it into all 3 outputs on the sound card as for me I get sound only from front speaker output... thanks

Kuky, I'm also running a X-Fi Xtremegamer sound card with driver version 2.18.15 on a Win7/64 system withA-10C Beta 4 and have the same problem. The music is heard thru both front and rear speakers but when I launch a mission the rear speakers stop working, I tried with both in 4.1 and 5.1 with the same results. I'm using a "Y" spliter of the front speakers to provide sound to my head set.

A bump to this thread because in DCS A-10C release version I still can't get any sound in game to work in rear/centre/sub channel even if I use sound card driver settings to expand stereo sound to all channels... it works in game menu and FC2 and BS but not in A-10C... today I tried on board sound and creative X-Fi Xtremegamer I have and I just can't get it to work... can I ask is this at least ackowledged by the developers and that it's been looked at?

PS: Is there anyone that has working sound through all of the 5.1 channels in DCS A-10C and if... what sound card do you use?

Stereo output hasn't changed from FC2 to A10C, so something seems to be changed in DX SDK, as A10C uses a more recent version.

Anyway, multichannel audio output is coming...

Please, be patient.

Well that is great news... thanks for the reply

about that SDK, is there some file I can use from say FC2 or BS that would work in A-10C?

Kuky, there is no way to play on X-FI card with FC2 or any DCS without sound issues. I have own X-FI Titanium and I went through the same thing. I have purchased USB stereo speakers and it works now fine. You can as well get USB stereo headphones.

I don't have this issue with FC2 or BS, in them stereo expand does work and can get sound from all channels, only in A-10C it doesn't. This is not a real killer but having spend the money on buttkicker it's kinda disappointing, I hope they work on sound engine more.

I'm glad I searched for this issue before posting. I am having this same issue with my 5.1 system. No sound out of the rear channel. Hopefully this will be patched soon.
