JetBLASTER Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 :helpsmilie: Latest news Support for Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2) ended on July 13, 2010. As of October 22, 2010, new PCs installed with Windows XP are no longer available. I think time to upgrade to Windows 7 or Vista is around the corner. With Windows is better for DCS and FCS ? Windows 7 support Trackir 5 and Saitek X52 PRO ? EtherealN Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Aye, only real reason why I still run Vista is that this machine is on the tail end of it's life, and there's not much point installing a new OS when I will soon purchase a whole new rig. 7 will grant nice performance boosts over XP for FC2/BS/Hog, and it is more lightweight than Vista, so 7 is the only sane purchase for a windows machine at the moment. Pfft... your blue screens my friend are caused by your hardware or crappy PSU or BIOS settings if you are overclocking... not Windows 7 :music_whistling: PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR

emenance Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 (edited) Xp is a great OS if you dont run heavy games. I am not sure but i think BS would like to use more of the page file in XP. Unless you do the registry hack to max out the page pool then you might be taking a performance hit. Other modern games Black ops and the like can about tax my cpu at 90 -95 % sometimes. Seems like starcraft 2 can too. Starcraft two caused me to max my page pool in the reg. Xp does not handle virtual memory on its own well enough. Its needs a little tweak. Right now after the hack its fine. I can only assume that my XP time is running short. Plus directx advancements i hope are here or coming soon. Many games now are really running a quad core around its limits sometimes. Windows 7 is coming very soon for all xp users that play games. Silent Warrior Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Mower: All I can tell from the TechNet-boards is that they have a beta out, for subscription customers or summat. I think the beta-SP was made available since just a little before Vista SP2, so it's been around a fair few months. That's no clear indication of when, though. I can only guess at when it might be finished and publically available; I'll just keep that to myself.

XP is also getting the attention of hackers, since they can get into it better then Vista or Windows 7. I have Windows 7 here and haven't had 1 BSOD in the almost 2 years that I have had it. Games run so much better now. The only problem I had is that I couldn't get my cougars to install, but I think they both might have been bad. i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
Succellus Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Errr, Any of the 2. Win 7 will be more shocking to your eyes and operation as its diferent from XP, vista is more friendly in this aspect if you don t like your bubble of confort being busted too much, but 7 has very interesting features. As a vista user i can say i had it installed on my HD for 2 years and a half and NEVER, NOT ONCE had to REINSTALL!!! My win7 is faster than Vista, but the PC is lean and clean and does not have 2 years and a half of installing uninstalling reinstalling games, wrong instalations and the like, so time will tell, but probably not much, cause as i grow balder i narrow my gaming buying spree, still mounting statistics to see if those elements have a direct correlation or not. So far so good, happy with 7 but i was also happy with Vista both 64. With XP(lode) i had to reinstall at least each 6 month... $%¨&$*(*&¨, more or less the same as 98, that was worst than 95, that was worst than 7.11. (still have all those disks..)
