schimmel Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Hey all. First an apology... I haven't bought FC yet *takes cover*. Got stuck in Guild Wars, but now the time has come. Another thing is my hardware. Here my specs: ATI 9700 1GB RAM 2,4 GHz Now I have my graphic settings set to 1024x768 and the details to low. My preference is always fps > res > details. With FC I also want some eye candy :). Is there already a preformance boost in FC as such? What would be the effects of a GeForce 6800 LE (around 170€) or the GeForce 6800 (250€)? Thank you very much.
TBT_Piper Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Your main bottleneck is your 2.4 Ghz Processor. And you could go Radeon if you do want your Video card updated because of the 5.6 due out soon. If you think you got it bad I have a 2.4 Ghz P4 512 MB Ram and A 32 Mb Geforce 2 MX 200. :) :(
cueceleches Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 I´ve noticed no FPS difference between 1.02 and FC, though some others state they have noticed a little improvement...As for the graphic card, I guess the 6800 is somehow faster then the LE...maybe clock core, etc...
juan_mol Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 I have a similar system: 2.4GHz P4, 1GB RAM and a 6800GT I can crank up almost every setting exept water (currently at medium) and of course vis range (medium). I get FPS in the 20 and 30 but of course they get lower near big cities or lots of ground units (worse if it is both :o ). I think you will get a nice experience with lomac and your current system. Of course it's never bad to update ;).
schimmel Posted June 7, 2005 Author Posted June 7, 2005 Your main bottleneck is your 2.4 Ghz Processor. That's what I didn't want to hear ;). I get FPS in the 20 and 30 but of course they get lower near big cities or lots of ground units (worse if it is both ) . Heh. Well if I buy a card of 150-250€ I want something like a res. of 1280x1024 and > 50 fps with all details. Guess it's a better choice for me to keep the money for a new computer later. Thx for the answers.

BuzzU Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Keep in mind if you're getting FC for the Su-25T. That it's hard to get good fps with it unless you have a pretty good system. Buzz
S77th-GOYA Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 If you're looking for an nVidia card, get the 6600GT instead. From the benchmarks I've seen, it does much better with LOMAC than the 6800. And it's cheaper.
TBT_Piper Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Don't quote me but ... If you want better FPS then get a new CPU. If you upgrade your Video card you will only be able to turn your settings up but no significant increase in FPS. A CPU would be a better bet as you will get better FPS and can still keep graphic settings at a reasonable level. The reason for this is because the Video card makes everything look good such as AA or AF but the CPU makes it run smooth. Therefore go for a new CPU if you want better FPS.
VMFA-Blaze Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 First of all you should up grade your cpu..... No matter what card you use with your persent cpu configuration there will be lags and stuttering..... But even after you upgrade these conditions will probably still exist but with less frequency.. And with this will give you a more immersive experience..... I'm presently running an AMD 64 3200 with a GFX 6600 265 which was a vast improvement over my old AMD 900 MHz with a 5200 128 with ME edition, and this is what I was useing when Lock on was first released (LOL) ..... Yes I also recommend that you get the 6600 which costs about $175.00 USD and the savings on this you should add to purchase of a new M/O & processer... With this you'll enjoy Lock on all the more.... ~S~ Blaze intel Cor i7-6700K ASUS ROG MAX VIII Extreme G.Skill TridentZ Series 32 GB Samsung 850 Pro 1TB SATA II ASUS GTX 1080/DIRECTX 12 Windows 10 PRO Thrustmaster Warthog Oculus Rift VR

Well if I buy a card of 150-250€ I want something like a res. of 1280x1024 and > 50 fps with all details. rofl .. even the beastiest comps out there can stuggle to run lomac on maxed out settings all the time. sure you can get over 100fps in some instances but go near a town or airport and most systems are reduced to 30fps fully maxed out if even that! i'm running an AMD 4000+, nVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra, 2x200Gb maxtors in RAID 0 and i dont get those fps over towns etc and my settings aren't fully maxed out (very close but not quite) so try not to get any false hopes of a card alone making such a huge improvement especially with only a 2.4 cpu holding it all up.
schimmel Posted June 8, 2005 Author Posted June 8, 2005 These posts are a great help indeed. Since I'm student I don't have that much money to spend. If I had a regular pay I'd surely buy a new card or even computer. As far as I see it now, I need both upgrades, CPU and GFX card. And the result would be nice but not fantastic. I mean, I can fly Lock On. It just doesn't look that great. So I'll put the money on my savings and wait till there's a rig which can handle Lock On (for a reasonable price ;)). Keep in mind if you're getting FC for the Su-25T. That it's hard to get good fps with it unless you have a pretty good system. What does that mean? An fps decrease only for the new Su-25T? Anyhow... I ordered the game today :).
juan_mol Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 The Su-25T and the Su-25 have the advanced flight model and it requires a little more horsepower that the standart flight model on the other planes.
