Youtube recently upgraded my personal account so that I could upload videos longer than the normal 15 minute limit, so I decided to make DCS-A10C Beta 4 my very first extended upload.

The footage was taken from an instant action mission, medium difficulty (winter), and features most weapon usage. Looking back I should have saved my mavericks for the last convoy since my wingman decided to stop taking attack orders even with his gun. I went suicidal on the last set of targets, and went down in a blaze of glory (only to survive to tell the tale!) :)

I highly recommend clicking through to watch it directly so that you can change the resolution (720p and 1080p are available), and in full screen:

Interesting, will watch in full soon! I'm still pretty new to A10, is there much to learn from your vid??

Thanks for the upload :)

Well, most of the controls and happening behind the scenes since I have a TM HOTAS Warthog and Cougar MFDs. As far as learning, well, I could have managed my weapons better but I thought I'd have more support from my wingman. I should have used my GBU-38 on the bridge, and other more stationary targets because as you can see in the video I just wasn't able to pop them off on the column.

I also screwed up with my last GBU-12, failing to go back into CCRP mode so I accidentally released it as a dumb fire. Plus I could have used a little bit less cannon fire on trucks earlier in the game, rockets would have worked fine.

Other than that it's just meant to showcase the graphics / environment along with some combat more than anything. Plus the whole crash landing was fun, it's not too often that you can land in a field and walk away.

Okay, I know I play too much when I start moving my head around trying to use Track IR during the youtube video.

Edited to add: and when I am looking it looks where I want because we are thinking the same.

Entertaining. Enjoyed watching it. I have not played much since beta 2, but mav seems to be much easier to employ now. I would have definitely used bombs on static objects and saved mavs for moving targets. For the final convoy though, you could have come from behind at altitude like when you dropped bombs on the bridge. High enough to be out of their attack range and the GBUs should track and land on the AAA.

Do you have TIR? Also what settings were you on and what PC specs?

I have not watched it all yet. This isn't a problem with your video, more a question/observation to ED, shouldn't the wingman be calling rifle when he launches those agm 65's? (around 3 minute mark in the video)

Yep, I'm running a TrackIR which I received earlier in 2010 but it hadn't seen a whole lot of action until now. PC specs are:

Intel Core i7 920 processor on an Intel DX58SO MB

6GB Corsair Dominator 1600 DDR3

NVIDIA GTX 580 SLI

I have three displays, and really love playing in 5760x1080. I wish there was a good way to capture it and show it off, but it's really something you have to see in person to truly appreciate. When I record games I just switch off to 1920x1080 on a single screen.

.. I have a TM HOTAS Warthog and Cougar MFDs.

So, this clever pan & zoom on the TGP, i suspect you do this with a couple of rotary knobs?

It seems the trick of 'really fast targeting' on quite a lot of terrain (the tanks and the AAA near the bridge, as i can remember this) is true HOTAS 'handson'

At least, thats what it looks like

Seems also you're targeting, and then do a 'broadcast' to your wingman? Is this a right guess?

I'm having a Saitek Yoke here and a VRInsight Combo, and fly with a MS Sidewindewr FF, but you're video makes me search the internet for these - expensive - HOTAS thingies, and - seems - the brand new Trustmaster WH the only Real option (i'm not sure if this is geed news or bad $$)

anyway, thx for the video, mt

It's Instant Action Medium (winter) right on the main menu. You can power through it in usually about a half hour, it's great for when you want to just jump in and tear some stuff up. :)

Before the HOTAS Warthog I was doing the TGP panning and zooming with just the keyboard since I was limited to my MS Sidewinder Force Feedback 2. The HOTAS Warthog really changed things up though, it's amazing how much easier it is to get things done when you've got almost everything you need in both hands. Usually the only time I need to take my hands off the WH is when I need to flip switches for startup, or access the MFDs.

Regarding target broadcasting, as far as I know he's just going off his what he sees when I ask him to attack anti-air. I'm just zooming in on the targets on my TGP so I can keep track and get my weapons off when needed. Usually if you specify a weapon type though you'll hear yourself say "at my SPI", so I'm guessing the sim does support sharing target data, or at least sensor point of interest data. I still have things to learn though, so I can't say for sure.

The HOTAS Warthog is definitely made for this sim, it's pretty much plug and play. The only control I've manually bound so far is Zoom on the friction toggle. Everything else is mapped exactly how it should be, it's like the in game stick and throttle panel is sitting on your desk.

Very enjoyable. I could see when your fate was sealed, but it was a gutsy move and I can't say I would have done otherwise.

One question: the AI voice kept calling the next section a "waypoint" instead of a "steerpoint" and you were in Steerpoint mode. Is this a known discrepancy within these missions?

The steerpoint is simply the 'currently active' waypoint, i.e. the one you're provided steering directions to. Also if you're referring to the messages that appear in the top right when they're being spoken (e.g. "the next target is an insurgent patrol of two trucks and infantry at waypoint 3 labeled PATROL") then that's not AI messages, but messages recorded for this particular mission and played back when certain events occur.
