vertical Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Should Catalyst AI be on or off? I'm a little confused as to what it actually does, it sounds good though. My system is a i7-930 @4ghz with 12gb ram. Holy hell.
siefex Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Quick question: does upgrading from 4 GB RAM to 8 GB make a significant difference in FPS? Here are my specs: AMD Phenom II X6 3.2 GHz ATI Radeon 6870 1GB 4 GB DDR3 Corsair 7200 RPM HDD 750 Watt PSU Thanks in advance for any advice offered.
159th_Viper Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Wait for Beta 5 before contemplating performance as opposed to necessary upgrades. Present build running like a Fly on Crack on my rig which is probably average - good at today's standards. Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? VMFA122 Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 (edited) Upgraded to a EVGA GTX570 SC from a GTX285 and noticed a big improvement! Beta 4 improved my FPS as well; getting over 100FPS over medium water and 50FPS in town. Watching my TRACK is a constant 60FPS. It was damn near unplayable in combat with the GTX285 on the first couple betas. Can't wait for TrackIR to get their sh*t together so I can use it. So I would say the best way to improve FPS is to dump that 2 year old or older vid card and wait for the final release. I am not a big fan of SLI as I don't believe anyone should have to shell out twice the amount just to make things work; also not to mention the EXTRA power requirements--what a JOKE. 1156 ASUS i7 870 stock 8 RAM GTX 570 SC Edited January 25, 2011 by VMFA122 ASUS 1156 I7 870 2.93 Stock//8 gig RAM//GTX 570SC

If yes, then your operating system can use the increased memory. As to whether a memory upgrade will increase your FPS, that depends on many other factors regarding your current PC. siefex Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Thanks for the reply WarriorX. I am running Win 7 64-bit so yes, my operating system will be able to use the extra memory. Is there a way to display a FPS counter in-game? Also, a random memory question for anyone who might have encountered this issue before: I originally had 8 GB of DDR 3 Corsair memory installed in my system. However, I purchased 4 GB of memory at a later date and, while it was still Corsair, the timings of the newer set of memory were different that the older 4 GB of memory. That said, I started to experience random BSOD's which occured while working within Win 7 at any time. The BSOD's had the listed message of "Memory Management Error." As a result, I tested all 8 GB of memory with memtest86+ and everything checked out fine after 24 hours of testing. However, when I removed the newer set of memory, my BSOD's went away entirely (2 months now when it was a daily occurance before). So, in light of my listed history, my question is does mixing two sets of DDR 3 memory with different timings often lead to system instability? If so, is there a way to counteract this problem? Thanks for the help!

Zomba Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Siefex, yeah mixing different spec RAM is a bit of a no no. Sometimes it works out and all is good with the world, but often it can be a fierce beast and turn on you when you are not looking. 1 I don't test for bugs, but when I do I do it in production.
SonofEil Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Present build running like a Fly on Crack on my rig which is probably average - good at today's standards. Umm, does that mean it's running nicely? I've seen a lot of crackheads and they don't run too quick. And then, you know, flys...they're fast, I guess...for their size.:helpsmilie: i7 7700K @5.0, 1080Ti, 32GB DDR4, HMD Odyssey, TM WH, Crosswind Rudder...

Zomba Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Looking at the beta5 work list there has been a massive amount of work done. Beta4 runs like a fly on crack on my current system, would be cool to see what the difference is. I don't test for bugs, but when I do I do it in production.

aceflier Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 I have yet to hear that SLI is of any benefit with this sim. Opinions? Search forums i posted on this many times. Going OT but it does help on my 260's in SLI unless my older cpu is bottlenecking qx6700 3.6ghz. Gonna get a 2600k setup soon and I'll post results in hardware forum with or without SLI benches. StrongHarm Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Please try the missions I just created HERE. In my humble opinion they are a masterpiece in modern chaos. They're the same, but one is at night (and looks awesome!) Post your average FPS (CTRL + Pause twice). Mission Overview: You're sitting on the runway. There are several friendly helos orbiting the runway with manpads, ZSUs, and SAs firing at them. A flight of A10s and AH64s are taking the AAA out. 50 MLRSs from each side are trading punches in front of you. And there's a gunbattle going on to your left. All your FPS are belong to us.
