I'm having a bit of trouble with trimming the aircraft's pitch. I've got the pitch/roll trim setup properly on my stick, a Saitek X65F, and I feel like I have a large enough deadzone applied (8 I think) but the plane doesn't hold level when flying hands off. Maybe this is the way it should be - anyone else experience this?

I use the pitch trim, but it takes quite a bit of up/down adjustments to get it near level and it doesn't last for long.

Thanks for the help

Are you holding constant speed? If you aren't doing that and are speeding up the aircraft will nose up the more speed it picks up and nose down the more speed it loses naturally.

Yes, holding constant speed - not changing the throttles though the aircraft is obviously increasing/decreasing in speed as the pitch trimming is being done.

I haven't noticed this though I do not have a deadzone set on my control stick so I am able to make the very minute adjustments to keep level. Not that it might help you with your issue but when I trim out the aircraft I get the total velocity vector to stop moving up or down no matter my attitude and it will normally hold there as long as speed and wind are constant.

I have exactly the same problem, it seems like the pitch trim up/down increments are too large.

If I click trim up 1 single click I am climbing and if I do a single click down trim I am slowly diving and this with keeping a steady speed of say 220.

The only cure I have found is to use the auto pilot and then it will fly straight and level.

My controller is the Hotas Warthog.

I am not sure about the Saitek... is the trim button an 'axis' or is it a type of POV hat. I am using a HOTAS Cougar and find that when trim is mapped to an axis it is VERY sensitive and you need to reduce the sensitivity ALOT. In earlier DCS games like Lock On and FC2 the trim mapped to a hat switch didn't work very well because the steps were too large resulting in over trimming.

However since A-10C I have noticed 'buttons' or a hat view used for trimming works EXTREMELY well as the steps are small enough! Also IRL pilots use AUTOPILOT alot to reduce work load.

I suggest:

(1) Make sure your trim functions are programmed to a HAT switch or similar and not an axis.

(2) Remember the trim mantra: POWER, ATTITUDE, TRIM!

(3) Once trimmed for straight and level flight use autopilot to reduce work load.

If you still can't trim after (1) then I think there is probably something wrong.

its also worth remembering once trimmed for level flight you can adjust pitch by increasing or decreasing the throttle

How does Joyrange.cfg work?

Default is 400 but tried setting it @ 255 the same as the range reported in the Raw Data indicator whilst calibrating and it seemed (might be a placebo effect) to make a difference.

This is how i fixed my problem.

Unplug the cable from the stick itself...

then reattach it and make sure the stick is in absolute center (leave it on the table and dont get any pressure applied to it

keep RPM's the same while you trim to get it level at that thrust. If you change the thrust you of course have to correct by trimming for added or decreased airflow over the wings while in level flight. And use auto pilot as mentioned above once you've got the aircraft trimmed.
