Just finished designing and will have my friend machine the parts for me. I'm trying to find a free site hosting for my homepage and I'll post result, info and demensions for people who wish to build one. It's self centering.

The goal is to keep it inexpensive.

Cheers

let me know what you guys think.

Hi,

They seem really cool, man. What about the "electronics" part, though? Are you planning to use any 3rd party controller card or a circuit of your own design? How do you plan to connect them to the PC? Game port, USB?

This seems a very interesting project.

Best regards,

Asterix

Leafer,

Not to put cool water on you. By the time you finish building it, it will cost you a few times more than what Ch Products' asking for. Nice design though.

There is one electronic part, a 10 usd potentiometer from CH Products and it will be wired for a gameport. The wiring diagram is easily found on the net. I actually asked here and BOPrey game me a link. :D I chose gameport because I want to be able to hook it up to a Hotas when I have money to buy one. And I can't find USB wiring scheme. heh

No, I'll not be using a controller card and I certainly don't know how to design one. Took me two weeks to learn this Turbo Cad thingie. hehe Do I need a controller card for rudder?

Actually, I think I can keep this project quite inexpensive by using plexiglass for base plate and the pedals, 1" tube for the two swingsarms and the rest will be made of machined steel or aluminum. The machisist is a good friend of mine so labor is maybe a bottle of cheap Thai whisky. heh Even if not, labor is extremely cheap in this country. Extreme! I should know. :D

Next up. A gimbal and a simple cockpit made out of metal tubings then I'll mount a carseat, the gimbal+stick and rudder to. When I have money, I'll get either a CH or a Cougar then I'll strip them up and mount the grip to the gimbal and throttle handle to the seat. SO for now, I'll have to do with simple stick and rudder with no buttons.

Evil!!!!

That is awesome! Holy crapper! How much is it?

Looks good, very simple design along similar lines to the Thrustmaster RCS. Later on you could easily add that to a USB device by getting a cheap USB stick and removing one of the axis and connecting your RCS to that. (similar method to using a gameport except you're running wires to the microcontroller from your rudder into the same port as an axis.) This way your cougar gets to retain full capability without losing an axis for rudder. Alternately you can use the connection for 2nd throttle on your cougars card.(I've heard theres one on there somewhere)

BTW the break/gas peddals of my Logitech Wingman Formula Force GP racing wheel works fine as rudders in lo-mac :).

SUBS17,

I read your post with interest but I couldn't figure out what you were saying. It's not you, it's me. I'm really dumb when it comes to technical stuff. Can you explain it again OR point me to a url that has that type of info?

Pappavis,

:D

What I'm trying to do is imitate the feel of real rudder pedals. They move back and forth in unison as you probably know. I know, I'm being anal. heh

Also, I got to give this guy some credit for he inspired me to build one after I saw his design.

Your design for your pedals is similar to the original Thrustmaster Rudder Control system. Its a very reliable design. If you want to connect it via USB you can use an old USB joystick and after opening it up you will find that each axis pot has a couple of wires coming from it that plug into the circuit board. If you cut the wires and run some wires from your pot on your rudder to your old USB sticks axis wires(for either pitch/roll or throttle). Now on the lockon config in the options your old usb stick should be there and just assign the axis your rudder is connected to (pitch) as rudder. As for a cougar I have heard that inside the cougars circuit board is a connection for a second throttle. Its possible to also connect your rudder to this and assign that as your rudder axis if such a connection actually exists. I can't confirm it as I do not have one but at frugals a guy mentioned it on one of the twin throttle threads.(about the connection existing on the circuit board for 2nd throttle)

Ohhhh. You're saying get an inexpensive USB stick and use its USB instead of making a gameport connection? If so, that's a wonderful idea!

I'll see if I can find a cheap one.

Thanks

Yeah, that's what he's saying.

You'll also be able to assign the remaining buttons and axis on the old USB stick for your pit as well. What sort of pit are you making?
