How to play Multiplayer?

I think i might be ready to get on and do some damage. But I dont know how to get on MP. If I click the A-10 Multiplayer icon it brings me to screen where I see no servers or people. Is there something else I should be doing to join yall?

IIRC, when you open up multiplayer, you will see in the top right corner that it will have a drop down box with LAN written in it. You should be able to change this to Internet, and then will be able to see the servers.

 

Just had a look, it will say Source to the left of the drop down menu box. Make sure in that box it says Internet.

Also, ensure you have logged in to your account at the Master Server.

Something just kind of sprang to mind, How does someone who purchased from Direct2Drive play multiplayer if they don't have a serial through an account on the DCS website? Sorry for the hijack I guess but just something that sprang to mind when EtherealN said that about the master server.

Insanatrix, they get a serial through their Direct2Drive purchase. Issuing serial numbers isn't hard-code restricted to the DCS website.

True, though I thought though the serial had to be registered on the website. I thought it was like a if the serial your using matches the one on the site then your good, if not etc...

No, you register your serial with the Master Server. It knows all serial numbers issued. You are making it way more complex than it has to be.

Huh.. On maybe 2 or 3 occasions I went to host a room. On the main page my login had been wiped- like a forum login is reset after deleting cookies. (I had not deleted cookies) Further- My "Pilot name" box has been re-set to computer default name ("Owner"), the network speed was set to default from LAN 10, and the type of server was set to LAN.

 

The hosting page UI is what I think Distiler is referring to regarding the default value: LAN vs. Internet ...

No, I was talking about that, but I though he was talking about ka-50, where I always had lan as default. My mistake. Good if they changed it to internet!

I haven't thought this through- so go ahead and enlighten me if this is an embarassingly bad idea... but I wonder if organizing the forum so that each title has it's own set of input, MP, etc subforums would work..

It's a shame that there are very few public servers, really. Wanted to get a shot of A-10 online, however there's hardly anywhere to fly.

For online flying I would definitely recommend joining a squadron. There are more servers out there than those publicly visible (you can "hide" it through using LAN mode), but many squadrons run private servers only - not public ones.
