micheal83 Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 (edited) Hey guys, I wish my first post here was more joyous, but such is life I guess. I have been interested in flight sims forever and had tons of the old microprose, janes, and a few other games way back in the day. I recently decided to get into DCS blackshark, and then possibly A-10c down the line. I just put together a new PC a few days ago, with an I7-950(now overclocked to 3.7ghz) 2 MSI GTX 580's in SLI, also overclocked to 900mhz ,H70 cpu cooler etc. Bought the CD copy of blackshark, flight manual, and just waiting til the end of the month for a Thrustmaster Warthog. Now I can run every game I play maxed out except....you guessed it.... DCS Blackshark. I only get around 25-26 FPS when looking around outside the airfield on the *Convoy Attack* Track. The wierd thing is that no matter if I move the Nvidia Slider to performance or quality(maximum AA, AAF etc) it STILL is capped at 26 fps at the airfield. I have to say I was expecting better preformance on a single 1920x1080 monitor. I have the latest Nvidia drivers 266.58, any help would be appreciated, thanks! Oh and Im using FRAPS to see my FPS Mike Edited March 4, 2011 by micheal83 forgot some stuff

micheal83 Posted March 4, 2011 Author Posted March 4, 2011 (edited) this post should have the file. as for fraps, it is still choppy with or without it turned on.DxDiag.txt Edited March 4, 2011 by micheal83 1
Distiler Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Add them as files or the foum will cut long texts. AMD Ryzen 1400 // 16 GB DDR4 2933Mhz // Nvidia 1060 6GB // W10 64bit // Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2
Distiler Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 (edited) -Have you installed directx9 when asked by ka-50 installer? do it if you haven't (don't worry, it doesen't overwrite directx11) -Create a new nvidia blackshark profile for \bin\x86\stable\simulator.exe (I assume you patched to 1.0.2) and force ("override any application setting") antialiasing (8X) and anisotropic levels (16X), also set texture filtering to quality or high quality. The default nvidia ka-50 profile is pointing to the old dcs.exe so it doesen't really work. -Disable SLI (yes, sometimes new tech makes weird stuff and you loose perfomance). I guess you can do it in the previously made profile (don't have sli myself) -Set water to low. And tell us how it worked :) PD: mind that airfiels usually have a lot of objects and fps take a big hit even in very powerfull computers, once flying everything changes. EtherealN Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 If you have not done so, please install DirectX9c June 2010. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=3b170b25-abab-4bc3-ae91-50ceb6d8fa8d After that, disable SLI and see if that makes any difference. You're not even close to getting any advantage from SLI anyway. Cibit Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Yep something ain't right. micheal83 Posted March 4, 2011 Author Posted March 4, 2011 well, turning the water from high to norm boosted me from 26 to around 38-40 fps while looks around the airfield. Reinstalled the game to make sure I used the DX9 and also turned sli on and off, that didnt affect anything. Wierd lol
Distiler Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 (edited) Well, that is better and what one could more or less expect in the airfield (I guess). Have you created the nvidia specific profile? Also mind that, as many others games, it's not using all cores of your cpu neither hyperthreading, and being a simulator it's doesen't really max your graphics card but you cpu, so a lot of work is being done by a couple of your cpu cores while the other is doing a siesta XD Edited March 4, 2011 by Distiler AMD Ryzen 1400 // 16 GB DDR4 2933Mhz // Nvidia 1060 6GB // W10 64bit // Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2
micheal83 Posted March 4, 2011 Author Posted March 4, 2011 ya just created a specific file for the nvidia setup, AA and AAF dont seem to work if you dont. Now just watching the tracks after takeoff i get up to 160 fps
JujuMan Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Turn off Hyper Threading in the Bios. Will gain another 10-15 frames. _________________________________________
micheal83 Posted March 5, 2011 Author Posted March 5, 2011 (edited) thanks for the tip, I just tried that but no luck in FPS boost. I tried the "winter attack" track, and while looking outside the helo in external view, while either sitting on the runway or flying through the city it sticks to 30 FPS like glue, other times its up to 70...sigh....any more ideas? Thanks Mike Edited March 5, 2011 by micheal83
DTWD Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 I would be happy with 30fps over a city! You could FPS lock at 30fps then you wouldn't notice a difference. Regards [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
JujuMan Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 What version of Black Shark are you using? 1.0 / 1.0.1 ? / 1.0.2? I have a triple installation, and, have noticed that i get a little more FPS using the 1.0.1 version. I have manually locked my FPS to 40 (found in the 2 graphics.cfg files KA-50/Config/graphics and KA-50/Config/graphicsbs). I'm with Ati ( Sapphire OC 5970), so cannot give any advise on the Graphics card i'm afraid. _________________________________________
Napa Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 I think 30 fps is fantastic. Especially over a city. Try some setting with the nvidia control panel. They might not increase your fps but could make the sim run smoother. Cibit Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 Another thing to try is disable V sync. Also in Nvidia control panel, try changing the settings for single and multi gpu's and maximum pre -rendered frames to 0 i5 8600k@5.2Ghz, Asus Prime A Z370, 32Gb DDR4 3000, GTX1080 SC, Oculus Rift CV1, Modded TM Warthog Modded X52 Collective, Jetseat, W10 Pro 64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Adding JTAC Guide //My Vid's//229th AHB

Thanks Mike Variable FPS is completely normal. Everything depends on what is going on and what is in the scene - remember, the simulation works in "frames" as well, not just the graphics, and the CPU also has to pass on instructions to the GPU. This isn't a mainstream shooter*. ;) Remember though, that the human brain reacts way more on changes in FPS than it does to actual FPS. If you notice the shifts in FPS, try the suggested maxFPS tweak. A steady 30FPS will look smoother than an FPS rate that varies from 40 to 60. *(And by the way, that's not a quip - the big development houses and their shooter studios actually go through the entire game with a fine-tooth comb, tweaking everything to stick to an "fps budget". Not possible here, since this is a study simulator - the important thing is simulating things properly, both bird and environment, everything else has to be secondary - and of course the fact that since the player here does what he wants and how he wants it it isn't possible to anticipate what loads the player's machine will be subjected to the same way it is in games like Bad Company or Crysis where you literally have to do almost exactly what they tell you to do.) Rusty_M Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 Getting 30 fps when low down sounds about right for your specs. I'm pretty sure I get fPs in the 20s briefly when low and looking around. I find it's one thing to analyse fps. How does it feel when you turn off fps monitoring? Slide show? Jerky? Hard to control due to lag? If not and if it feels nice and smooth, I just forget about the numbers and enjoy myself. The world is going mad. Me? I'm doing fine! http://www.twitch.tv/rusty_the_robot https://www.youtube.com/user/RustyRobotGaming
micheal83 Posted March 5, 2011 Author Posted March 5, 2011 @JujuMan I am using 1.02 @Cibit Vysnc is disabled, Ill deff take a look at the other stuff though @EtherealN You make an excellent point, it wouldnt be notacable if it stuck to a certain FPS, Ill take a look at that tweak and report back. @Rusty_M: Cant really play it, I have an old joystick, but this Sim deserves the best, so I have to wait til the end of the month to order the TM Warthog and a set of rudder pedals. I did discover how to turn off and on the FPS counter in the game instead of using fraps, but it still gives the same readouts with no slowdown. Thanks for all the comments guys, I really appreciate it! Mike
micheal83 Posted March 6, 2011 Author Posted March 6, 2011 well the MaxFPS setting REALLY helped a bunch, now it is smooth as glass all the time, thanks again for the help! Mike
