Sinky Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 I had to move to the vector clip after I broke my track clip. Unlike Bulletstop I never noticed a difference at all. El_Roto Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Forgive me if this is covered elsewhere - one thing I've found to be very helpful is to assign the center and pause functions (the first one re-aligns your view, the latter freezes the camera - very useful when working the radios or CDU) to mouse buttons. I used Mouse Btn 3 and Mouse Btn 4 and it made a world of difference. The defaults are F keys (12 and 9, IIRC) which are a pain since it's hard to hold your head still when reaching across the keyboard, in my experience anyway. Just a tip. Also (I can't paste the link now as I'm on my I-Pad and doing that without a mouse is a real pain in the ***), search the forum for Wag's DCS profile for Track-IR. I use it and feel it works extremely well; over time you'll probably develop your own but his is a great place to start. At any rate, enjoy your new kit! I can only echo the praise others have stated. (The Pro is pretty flimsy, though. I'm on my second one after JB Weld couldn't hold the first one together any longer. tintifaxl Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Hmm, thanks for the reply guys - though I'm still a little unsure...I think that for now I can manage without attaching it to headphones - So basically, if I have the standard trackIR5 and a baseball cap, I'm set to go...But if I want to attach it to my headphones, I'll need the trackclip pro? Thanks :) I do have the trackclip pro and never use it. I very much prefer the cap. So I suggest you give that a try and see how you like it, before you gou out and buy the trackclip pro. Conure Posted March 8, 2011 Author Posted March 8, 2011 Hey all, They didn't have trackIr in so I reordered elsewhere (rcsimulations, very friendly and helpful on the phone). Anyway, I ordered the TRACKiR Pro with the clip thing...The question is, will it attach to these okay... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Saitek-PH04A-Vibration-Headset-PC/dp/B000GFKXJC They were only £25 and though I'm sure theyre quite gimmicky, they are okay reviewed... Cheers Hard to tell. The ? for me is just the thickness of that band- but it seems likely that you will have to enlarge the adjustment- thus exposing a part of the sliding mechanism that should be thinner.. The actual LED arms can be swung about to properly align even if the clamping surface is shaped kinda weird- so that part should be OK. I'd say chances look alright from here. Conure Posted March 9, 2011 Author Posted March 9, 2011 WOW!!!! Incredible...So much better... Couple of questions though...Precision mode..What does that do? It seems to have no effect :S Secondly, TRACKCLIP PRO!!! Wow it looks like it cost about 20p to create...I had to tape up the open casing when I got it... Other than that, brilliant! aaron886 Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Yeah the track clip can be a bit annoying. I actually prefer a hat with the reflective clip on it when nobody's looking. :D Precision mode dramatically reduces sensitivity. Allows you to slow down your head movement if you need to... I've never felt the need for it. Pause is important for most people though. Nice when you want to look down at your CDU and click buttons without missing because of a drifting head position. Enjoy TIR man, it's a helluva product. Once you get used to it, it's indispensable.
wtfisgoingon Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 (edited) Conure: Wags profile is AWESOME to use then just adjust the sens to your liking. Its great and saves a lot of time, even allows you to look all the way behind you! http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=59974 Newest TrackIR drivers. 5.1 Final: http://media.naturalpoint.com/software/TrackIR_5.1.Final.exe After you have that profile, spend the time to make sure the camera is adjusted correctly, switch to camera view to help you figure it out. You want only your dots to show up, and they must stay green at all times. If you see other things in camera such as other dots or the dots blink red, or the dots are kind of distant looking adjust the IR brightness and Light filter threshold to get the best you can. Always keep video processing mode to Precision in this section. You can select Precision off/on from the other section if you'd like via F10 or clicking the tab. Once you get it setup perfectly, its so amazing. Enjoy!! :) Edited March 9, 2011 by wtfisgoingon i7-920 @3.8Ghz / MSI X58m / 8GB DDR3 / 2 x HD5770 / Asus-vw226h @1920x1200 / 2x OCZ Vertex 2 80GB SSD's / Win 7-64 / TrackIR 5 / Saitek x52 / Razer BlackWidow Mech Keyboard / Razer Deathadder Stuttering or fps problems? Lange_666 Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Pause is important for most people though. Nice when you want to look down at your CDU and click buttons without missing because of a drifting head position. Clicking buttons and toggling switches is only the minor problem with head drifting. I find knobs and other turning stuff a lot more difficult to keep operating "when the head starts to drift". Pause really comes in handy then... i'm using it all the time. Bulletstop Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Awesome, this will be something you use constantly and after a period of time you will feel handy capped if you are not using it while flying. Honestly take the time and setup your own profile. I am not saying anything is wrong with wags, but I feel that if you set yours up for your taste it works so much better in my humble opinion. andysim Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 the only time I pause my TIR is during A2A refueling :smartass: cause it makes it easier to keep the HUD and the tanker in front of me.
Lange_666 Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 So you don't have a drifting head problem? I played around with my profile to make it a minimum drift but it still drifts. Or call it chasing buttons... In DCS this is not such a big deal because once you "grabbed" a button, switch or knob, you can continue to operate it, even if you turn your head, as long as you keep it "grabbed". In FSX however, this is another story. Once you move the pointer out of the knobs focus, you loose control so it's a lot harder to operate. But that aside....i can't miss TrackIR anymore, it's a whole different world when you get used to it.
