As of today I ordered me TM's Warthog. :joystick:

For past weeks I was reading a lot about DCS A10, thrustmaster warthog and related things. As a person coming from Janes/EA F15 and slight Falcon 4 with still packed TM's F22 Pro in mint condition (placed it back in to original packaging - now sitting on top of my PC) it was just a matter of time that I came back to flight sims.

So I have a question for starters about DCS A10:

I'm running Q9550 with 4GB memory backed by HD4850 and Windows 7 32BIT installed on it.

What you think of it? Will it run? Will I be limited with 32bit system?

Thanks for your answers and see you up there soon.:pilotfly:

4GB memory - Sufficent

Ati HD4850 - I have a HD 4870x2 and only at High settings(1900x1080) were there any lags. And those happened only when new stuff popped-up. Start at Medium Settings and then start adding stuff.

Windows 7 32BIT installed on it - there is a 32 bit version that comes with DCS: A-10C

I've flown beta with HD4770 and A10 was playable with med. settings. So, just like ZoomBoy said, you're good to go. Have fun!

You'll run it fine, though I'd recommend a graphics card update! GTX 260 to GTX 460 saw a huge fps increase for me!

DCS A-10 is incredible - If you like choppers consider Black Shark too, also a great product :-)

First rep inbound for seeing the light and coming back to sims!

Thank you sir.

I flew Janes F15 back in 1998-2001 and a little Falcon 4.

Kinda stopped gaming back then and I was in MMO's for past few years. Tho the feeling of flight sim and the wonderful experience of flying with a squad never left me. Ever.

Thank you all for the info, keep pointing me in the right direction :D

Tomorrow I'll print me the manual so that I have something to study while I wait for Thrustmaster Warthog.

You're more than welcome! I remember playing Janes F15 as a kid...I didn't really learn it, just kinda...flew around..You're aware of the manual size right?! Hope you've got a lot of spare ink :D Nice one the the Warthog, apparently it's awesome...I'm using an X52 pro which..does the job in a floppy way!

i saw the minimum requirement is 8600 Graphic

i have a intel core 2 duo with 3gb memory and 8600GS graphic

i select all the settings as the lowest i still cant play, the FPS hit is bad and lagging

Thunderbird, use the trick that's linked in Nate--IRL--'s signature; it's helped a lot of people with memory issues.

Best of luck!

I hate doubling up the posts but I have another question.

Today I got my TM hog and since I can't spend any more money ATM (till next paycheck :music_whistling:), is it possible to play A10C sim without buying it? I just want to test the HOTAS.

Another question that I have, how limited am I without rudder pedals?

Unfortunately ED do not offer a demo version, so there is no way to try it out! As for the rudder pedals, whereas with Black Shark I really struggled to play it without pedals, with the A10 I manage fine using the twist mechanism on my joystick.

(hold on, just thought...I don't think the HOTAS Warthog has a twist throttle as it's a replica)..

Hmm, on second thoughts I think you will need a pair of pedals, otherwise coordinated turns and landing are going to be very difficult in all but perfect conditions...

The SAS takes care of turn coordination in the A-10c, so you shouldn't need pedals for turning unless you have a SAS problem.

I find that I need the rudder to maintain altitude! Perhaps I just need more practise at turning, lol

Shouldn't you bank the aircraft, maintain altitude with back pressure and center the ball with the pedals? This is how I was taught in a Piper Warrior anyway.

What other sim would you recommend for testing TM hog till I can buy A10C?

You can get the X plane demo free of charge! There is also flaming cliffs 2 but that can be a nightmare to buy..

Very jealous of your HOTAS...Makes my X52 Pro look like the POS it is :D

About the turning with rudder - Thank you for the advice. I am pretty much teaching myself this stuff as I have very few real flight hours...I will try your (correct) method!

The Quad is better - DCS (and pretty much any game) use between one and four cores..By the time the first CPU is of any practical use it'll be obsolete.

The higher clock rate on the Quad will be of great benefit.
