BKLronin Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 I began to make my own skin yesterday and I wondered how we can get those to be seen in multiplayer. It is a pretty huge work around but maybe we can get this on any public server. Like that: 1. Register on skinsupported server x 2. Upload skin with all files 3. Server integrates skin ( a10.zip and folder inside liveries) 4. Create specified slot for the registered member 5. Provide Modman compatible skin package with all the registered member skins in it, so that everyone can see your skin 6. Download and install 7. See custom skins of others in multiplayer Maybe this could work I didn´t tried it yet. Because of the huge number of client sots and the massiv workload coming with it because of too many players eventually onlne simulataneously we may have to wait for the dedicated. What do you think? Snoopy Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 We use custom skins in the 1st VFW , 25th VFS for pilots with over 50 flight hours...I updated the skins (just the nose section) for those pilots and have a package update monthly. This keeps it manageable IMO. v303d Fighter Group Discord | Virtual 303d Fighter Group Website
BKLronin Posted March 20, 2011 Author Posted March 20, 2011 Nice, I supposed that certain squadrons already use it that way. It anway would be great to have this on a public server where (like STP servers) you can get in, fly and get off when ever you feel right for the A10. A public home so to say. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Grimes Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 Sadly the feature to pick your own skin, tail number, and payload was removed for DCS BS. It was a very useful and liked feature of LOMAC. Right now you have to create an aircraft with a specific skin selected to it and identify this slot belongs to player X. All we can do is complain and beg for ED to return the feature. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. BKLronin Posted March 20, 2011 Author Posted March 20, 2011 We really need this back. I guess they removed it because of the liveries structure. I don´t know anything about source code but they are kept inside a Zip file all together so it seems not to be easy to update that while a server is running. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Snoopy Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 We currently have 23 custom skins (21 pilot specific, a standard skin for those that don't have the 50 hours, and a Nugget skin for training missions). We also have a "stock" mission that I upload each month with all the custom skins already on the ramp. Use NAV points instead of setting up waypoints for each skin (since you can't create flights with more than 1 client). When we log into MP you just look through the list for either your jet or one of the spares and jump in. v303d Fighter Group Discord | Virtual 303d Fighter Group Website
Merc Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 (edited) Hmm, I really think this thread should stay alive. As a squadron which flies in MP servers, often other than ones we have control over, we like to be able to look like we should, and also look all the same. Being able to set your tailnumber was also used to ID ourselves on the tarmac back in LOMAC days. With the current implementation (or more the lack of), the much liked features are not available anymore. It's not vital, but once you had it, you don't want to go back. I see many options as to how to implement it (user-end wise, since the code is a black box) - It could be by network setting (although one choice per country is a lot), this is more applicable for tail number. - On the briefing or plane selection page, applicable for both. Maybe as a prompt when you select a plane slot. - Even by in-game menu (Crew chief, paint my aircraft), this is more applicable to skin selection. Has ED made any official announcement on the subject? Edited November 22, 2011 by Merc added ideas - Nachtwolf
Ghoullees Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 Has there been any movement on displaying custom skins in DCS World Multiplayer yet?
speckfire Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 I'm having issues of my squad skins appearing intermittently even though all clients and server have them. Speed is life !!!

HiJack Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 What happens with the skin assignment if you remove all skins localy exept for the first one in the skin list for the A-10C? If you can replase all files in the first skin folder with the files from the skin you want and just keep that folder. How will that affect single player mission and multiplayer missions? (HJ)
speckfire Posted July 29, 2012 Posted July 29, 2012 (edited) Never Sean that... I'm sorry I should have been more specific, I was talking in DCS World A-10C. In DCS-A10C stand alone I have no issues. Edited July 29, 2012 by speckfire Speed is life !!!

311Gryphon Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 (edited) This may be a dumb question but I've searched a bit and can't figure it out. Is there a way to use your custom skin in the Instant Action or Campaign missions and how would I use my custom skin when playing with a friend on a server he set up..basically doing the single missions in co-op? I can get the skins in the missions which I create but other than that I don't know how to implement them. Thanks. Edit: I'm still looking for info on how to use skins in multiplayer. As of right now it appears that you have to create the missions yourself to utilize the skins (by selecting the skin in the plane details when building the mission). Is this assumption correct or is there a way to force other missions you display the skin you desire to have? From the various threads on the subject I have not been able to nail down the reality of it all.
