Hi i am planning, still and ever, a simple generic cockpit to better enjoy sims.

Now i am in doubt: 27" 16:10 monitor or 32" 1080p LCD Tv are the same price, around 750 to 850 USD. (Remember i don t live in europe or USA, hence the price.)

27" is thebiggest monitor i can encounter, and above 32 is an overkill for price and use IMHO, since it probably will be used as monitor only.

I need your opinion.

Actually with my 22" 16:9 monitor i have a really hard time reading labels and clearly seeing the target for slewing, without TIR it would be near impossible, but even with TIR and zoom i have to "neck dance" which is annoying and cut SA to ribbons.

The 22" will be used to export MFD and instruments as i have TM MFD frame,

So which one, in your opinion would be better.

Someone said me 32 it tooooo biiig.

But i m not sure.

Thank you in advance.

I think it depends on the distance between yourself and the monitor. If you're comfortable with moving your head left/right a little more, go for the bigger one.

Another debate could be the resolution/refreshrate/contrast ratio's/reaction time.

That part of the counseling i m hoping to solve i m actually 50-50, i can t solve it geek wise.

Computer monitors generally have better color and contrast and sharpness (dpi - dots per inch), so the picture clarity looks better.

However, the immersion factor is better when using a TV monitor through HDMI, and it's still good enough even for photo editing etc. The size vs. price is the determining factor for why I'd choose a TV over a monitor.

I'm not sure a 32" would be big enough for me if a 27" screen cost almost the same. The monitor will look better, but if the TV was 40" for the same price I think I'd opt for the TV instead. Bigger is better... but the clarity of a monitor wins when similar in size.

|Thanks Lawdart,

Since i m building a cockpit, and the TV will be near (probably little more than armreach, wouldn t a 40" be an overkill ?

Ummm price diference ain t a problem, but space is..

so 1 vote for 32" i think.

Not at all. I use a 46" TV in my pit and I sit about two arm lengths back from it. Once you dial in the snapview to have the right head angle it's perfect. I believe it's pretty close to actual size.

I would never use a TV as my primary web surfing or coding monitor due to the reasons LawnDart has articulated, but they work great for gaming displays.

Just a note to make sure if the TV you can get is capable of displaying the PC image 1:1 (pixel per pixel, no resizing/stretching/over-scan) and with no post-processing. Some cheap TVs, specially with all the crap TVs on sale in this country, can't do that.

Normally there is a function called 'Game Mode', 'PC mode', '1:1' or something like that. But it's better check on specialized forum to confirm the TV exact model is really capable of that, before buying it.

I think 1080p TV those that are full HD, arent crappy because they are more thoug for gaming than the 780p.

But anyway thank you for the heads up!

I dont want no 780p...i want something worthy.

LED LCD will save you money on your electric usage also. I borrowed a friends kill-a-watt and checked.I cant recall the exact numbers but my 27" Dell LCD monitor uses nearly as much power as my 46" Sony LED LCD TV. Dell monitor is a heater and make my room an unbearable hotbox in the summer. TV is always cool to the touch, hardly any heat.

The only thing I reccomend before you make your purchase is to do your homework and look at the spec sheet on the TV you are considering. See what resolutions it supports for PC connection and on what connector(I could hook up via HDMI or a olf VGA DB15 connector on the TV) Also realise that unless you spend extra for a TV with 120 or 240hz refresh rate you are stuck at 60Hz- not good for eyestrain for long gaming sessions...

If it's strictly for gaming and not work or web browsing, a large screen using 1920x1080 is OK. But if you want to do anything else, it's useless. Then again, not all LCD TV's are the same but my 32" newer Sharp TV looks like crap when displaying the desktop and text but games look awesome on it.

Also be careful because most TVs above 60hz don't actually accept incoming signals above 60hz... they create the extra frames with blur filters. While this smooths out motion video it introduces frame lag for video games which is bad.

@ Slayer:

My actuall monitor is 60 MHZ, would this strain occur because of the larger area and larger pixel ?

@ Gadroc:

I m not sure i m following you..

TV above 60Hz, i think you mean meant to receive above 60Hz doesn t really receive above 60 Hz they only blur the extra signal trought the screen ?

Slammin, my 40" home TV is my wife s computer screen, and all look shark on that non Full HD (as far i can remember) TV.

But thank you for the heads up, i ll take extra care on choosing the TV, without this warning i wouldn t have bothered to have this extra care.

Some TV resseller will have a sweat for his money :D
