Yes that's exactly what I meant. That's too bad. But on the other hand, a cheapo PCI video card would not be that much more expensive than a splitter. And it's probably better performance/FPS wise.

I am sure I read somewhere on these forums that using a secondary low spec GPU caused a massive performance hit overall, but you don't seem to have any issues with that....

Nice to know. I'm still at the planning process though. I'm trying to find out what road I should go..... Usb monitors or VGA with or without extra vid card...

There is a third road.

Use only one extra monitor (17-19") ,put it below the main screen. In this case you have to find a way to move the main screen higher.

You can make something like this:

 

 

The set up is from Falcon ,but I a have seen similar here. I think this is the less expensive solution.

I already have a similar setup with a 15" CRT beside my main with my Cougar MFDs attached to it. The way my desk is made, I can`t move my main up or down, not enough to slip my 15" under my main. I could do a semi homepit/stands for my monitors but i'm not the sole user of this PC, and that would be good with my kids trying to play Dirt3.... That's why i'm leaning towards the 2 small monitors so I get more "immersiveness" and I can also move the MFCDs around on the desk and still keep it as a family puter...

Right now I have a 15" as a second display rendering in game MFCD's, my TM MFCD's attached to it. I want to go the 2 X 8" display for the MFCD's.

 

For what I understand,

 

• Running USB monitors is good, need to install display link driver. FPS drop???
  Running VGA require either Triple Head TOGO, is my graphic card good enough?, or with a low end PCI card just to drive the 2D for the MFCD's (somebody mentioned a big FPS hit with this setup)
  

 

I'm at lost here. I want to go the cheapest way though, so i'm trying to avoid the Triple head way..... I'll fork the $ if I have to, but as a last resort.

Have you looked at upgrading your video card to a 5xxx or 6xxx series which can drive 3 monitors?

Just one thing to remember, AFAIK: If you wanna use 3 monitors simultaneously, at least one of them must be connected to display port (or mini display port, depends on your video card model). If your monitors happen have only DVI or VGA connectors, you need an active adapter. With max. 1920 x 1080 resolutions the adapters are pretty cheap, but with higher resolutions (dual-link) the adapters are a bit more expensive.

The mini display ports will be used for 2 small 8" monitors, at a res of 800*600, or slightly higher. it shoulnd't be an issue

Hi,

I'm currently using two monitors like these ones:

They are currently configured at 640x480 because I don't need more resolution for DCS A-10. 800x600 is the native resolution and support 1024x768.

 

Display Port to VGA adapter is this one (for my main 19" CRT monitor):

Wow... those are perfect, and the cheapest i've seen so far. They would be perfect..... except that they are not NTSC.... dang....

 

edit: hmmmm... dummy question here: does it matter if it doesn't have NTSC when plugged into a VGA connector???

I believe that it doesn't matter. In the monitor configuration you choose VGA.

im still looking for some displays too...

 

My main GPU is Already using all 4 outputs (2 Mini DP -> DVI connecting to 2 ASUS 24s, 1 DVI directly to 3rd ASUS 24 for Eyefinity, HDMI is sent to TV for use with Windows media Center/InfiniTV4.

 

So I'd Either Need USB Displays or Small displays Plus Another GPU which I dont think I have room for.
