RSharpe Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Does anyone else hate the design of this POS? I've gone through 2 so far. The first lasted a couple of months. I contacted NaturalPoint and they sent me another. THat lasted just 1 month before it broke like the first at the joints.
Atomic978 Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Hmmm. I have had mine for about 6 months with no problems. I just wish it was wireless. =RvE=Atomic Alienware Area-51, Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q9400 @ 3.2GHz, 8gig Corsair XMS2 DDR2 Ram, EVGA SC GTX 570, Western Digital 1.0TB 64mb cache HD. Atomic978 Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 That's a good idea. But I was having light issues with my set up. The track clip pro took care of this for me as I was then able to turn up the light filtering higher then I could and get great tracking. =RvE=Atomic Alienware Area-51, Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q9400 @ 3.2GHz, 8gig Corsair XMS2 DDR2 Ram, EVGA SC GTX 570, Western Digital 1.0TB 64mb cache HD. Any sort of light in the background totally buggers up the tracking.
Atomic978 Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Well I use to never use it say mid day as my house has allot of light coming into it and could not really find a spot where it did not mess with the system. Since I got the track clip I was able to turn off the camera LEDs and crank up the light filtering enough so when I use it during the day time now I have no issues. =RvE=Atomic Alienware Area-51, Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q9400 @ 3.2GHz, 8gig Corsair XMS2 DDR2 Ram, EVGA SC GTX 570, Western Digital 1.0TB 64mb cache HD. BTTW-DratsaB Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 I'm on my second TCP. The wire connection came loose on the last one. I know it's supposed to be light weight but you cant help but feel it could be a little sturdier. What I really want to see them make is a Wireless TrackClipPro. This should surely be possible with a little rechargeable battery like the Nvidia 3D vision glasses use. I might try to make one when this current TCP breaks. DayGlow Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 On my second clip as well. The first broke when the dog caught the headphone cord and pulled them off the desk and broke the little tab off in one of the joints. The second pair is going 2 years strong. I remove it from my headphones when I'm not using it. "It takes a big man to admit he is wrong...I'm not a big man" Chevy Chase, Fletch Lives 5800X3D - 64gb ram - RTX3080 - Windows 11

RSharpe Posted April 3, 2011 Author Posted April 3, 2011 Has anyone tried to epoxy these things? They need to be reinforced. The breakaway design is just the dumbest thing I've seen on a computer peripheral in a long time.
bengo Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Never had any problems with the Track Clip Pro, or with the TIR-unit itself. Keeps going strong for several years now. I hope they do not switch to wireless, as the batteries of wireless mice and keyboards always seem to run out when you need them most. If it is breaking at the joints, then you're doing something to it it is not designed to undergo. BTTW-DratsaB Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 (edited) Remember that it isn't a beerbottle opener :P Use it with care! Now he tell us ! :megalol: One simple thing that would make it a bit stronger would be if they added that little bit of rubber you get on head phones wires/jacks, to keep it strongest where it flexes most. hard to explain it. We could do with that where the wire exits the trackClip. I think that's what caused mine to break. The wire was able to move about too much from me turning my head left and right where it enters the TCP so it broke inside. It works. Just strap it to the headset. Can't look any dorkier than wearing a headset and TCP anyway. :D "Tank! I need a program for a TM Warthog!" slowhand Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 you would think for what they cost NP could use a light wt. alum or other alloy instead of cheap plastic. i've had mine afew yrs..still works great. you can re-enforce the pivet pt with a pipe cleaner and it will also add some support.. JaseGill Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Mine snapped a few weeks back. I dropped it for the umpteenth time. If cats always land on their feet, headsets with TIR always land on the TIR. Its the law. I'm not even sure a cast iron one would suffice to be honest given that my headsets (even when provided a hook or two) seem to end up on the floor. So, mines Super-glued at the 1st joint in a good position and I'm hoping that the clip that clips it to the headset doesn't go next (even though its come open without dropping quite a few times. J. Joyride Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 FWIW, I have both a track clip pro and the hat clip - using the hat clip since it works just as good for me, and is more comfortable. Hate having the track clip pro dangling about and it didn't improve my tracking. Well, that, and the track clip pro is already in a couple pieces after someone sat on it ;-)
