silent one Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 When Im looking at my map in the tad there are sections of it that are black. Not all of it , just rectangular patches of it. Odd as if I zoom in or out these sections of the map may reappear. Its like certain sizes of parts of the map are missing and they default to black. Is this a bug?
Zenra Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 The sequence of TAD map scales includes a "no map" step: 1:5M1:2M1:1M1:500KNO MAP1:250KNO MAP1:100K1:50K It's not a bug; it works as it does in the real A-10C. sunshine_db Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 I've seen this too, my guess is there is no detailed map for that particular part of the world. The maps on the TAD are actual aviation maps. And if there is no map for that part of the world available, then it can't exist. So the black SECTIONS you are viewing, are the EDGE of that particular map. Eg. Melbourne Australia, where i fly, there are more detailed maps for the main city area than there are for the countryside. So i wouldn't say its a bug. Hope this helps mate. 1
dok_rp Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 I was just about to post this this very moment. I am familiarizing myself with the commands and setting up mu X52 so I can memorize the what-switch-does-what type of thing and I've noticed this "issue" too. Some areas of the map are just plain black when you zoom in. Are these really supposed to be black?
Frostiken Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Nope, not a bug. Real life maps, even in aircraft, are missing big hunks. You just have to make do with a lower quality smaller-scaled one. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Frederf Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 I wonder if I can't fill in the gaps and add in the missing levels by simply copying the closest match in scale existing map onto that slot. If you're missing the 1:500 slot then why not use the 1:250 or the 1:1000 map for that level simply reduced or blown up?

Frederf Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 No, I mean in the files so the previously blank map layers have picture data.
silent one Posted May 4, 2011 Author Posted May 4, 2011 Annoying that when they were making the sim they didnt notice that they were missing out sections of the map in some sizes. grrr
Frederf Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Well they used real maps and real maps aren't available in all scales in all locations.
silent one Posted May 4, 2011 Author Posted May 4, 2011 Well if its deliberate I can give them a pass. I guess everything that looks like a bug and acts like a bug, isnt a bug ;)
dok_rp Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 Couldn't it be possible to fill out the missing chunks with the vector-type maps from Black Shark? Or maybe adopt them altogether in the A10 sim? I mean, eventually both sims will be linked and it'll be easy enough for ED to update the Shark maps, since they are vector images from the mission editor. Now, when that happens will the A-10 remain a leg behind with those black chunks from the cartographic maps? There are some areas that the map is missing completely. If so, that'd be sad. =(
Frostiken Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 Prepare to be sad then :) Yeah it could be possible, but the fact is the maps are missing in reality. It's not actually that uncommon. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Frederf Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 They are scans of paper maps, probably the same that the USAF would use from a Russian AIP supplier. I'll see if I can create the missing layers from the existing layers (if that makes sense).

mia389 Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 I have that when I am by Mineralnye Vody. Ths is an objective in one of my missions and I always get the black box if my TAD is AUTO. If I change it to Manual then the terrain apperars. I can zoom all the way in then.
