Sure but Bodo has to sign your contract :)

Sounds good Yo-Yo even if I can´t undestand any single word. I like the Guitar solo coming in later pretty much.

heh, cool little thread we got cooking here. Reason does seem pretty powerful, ronin, haven't used it, though. Often have thought about trying it out so may do that in the near future.

Yeh welcome Yo Yo! That track sounded great, nice trippy ending, too. Nice guitar sound!

Ahh I just got in after a heavy pizza! Can't move.:helpsmilie:

The musical idea and lyrics for this song was written many-many years ago by my friend, when we were students, and now I have picked the song up to reanimate as I think it deserves to be recorded.

Here is the translation:

I am not so crazy enough yet

To deal out cards one by one.

And put a coil

Where a brick must be trusted in.

The Master Of Violin won't be able

To reproach me for the bitching wife (Chorus: THE FIRST WIFE)

And I will call him - Old Scripich

And I will call him - Old Forgotten Scripich.

To understand what "Scripich" means... Violatist or Violatest instead of violinist would be good in English.

Hi! Yo-Yo,

Glad to see that one of our genious dev is also interested in music! I was wondering, in this quote of yours, were you referring to a violist by any chance? somebody who plays the viola instead of the violin? Because in the professional musical world there are so many jokes about violists.... at least in symphony orchestras...

I like your song!

Thank you for your kind words, Jean-Francois! By the way, ED is pretty musical oriented company.... :)

Scripich has allusion to violinist not to viola player (ALTO player in Russian) but now I've learnt (Thanks to Google) that it is a common surname in Slavic languiges (we had no Google at that time).

Could you share some jokes about violists? I suspect it's something like we have about bass guitar players... :)

Hello Yo-Yo,

It is so nice to talk about music with ED people, thank you!

My whole life is about music (except when I fly simulators...).

Forgive me for not answering very quickly, I am very busy with work right now (I am at the Staatsoper in Munich, as assistant conductor to Kent Nagano for a big production of St-Francois d'Assise by Messiaen, first time here, and there are lots of rehearsals...)

But, to answer your question, as a conductor, I must be very careful not to do prejudice to anybody... Viola jokes are so common (violists are by tradition the fools of the orchestra), but actually, there are as many great viola players as there are players for any other instruments... (and the good ones are the ones not only not minding the jokes but even telling them...)

but still, the jokes are pretty good ::D

Q.: What is the difference between the first stand of the viola section and the last stand in an orchestra ?

A.: One measure…

Q.: How do you make a violist play tremolo?

A.: You put a long note in his part and write solo besides it…

Q.: What is the difference between lighting and the fingers of a violist?

A.: there is no difference : they never strike at the same place…

Q.: How do you park your car in spaces reserved for handicapped people?

A.: You put your viola case clearly seen on the dash…

Q.: How do you tell the difference between premature ejaculation and a viola solo?

A.: There is no difference : both you know WHEN they come and both you CANNOT do anything to prevent it…

But my favourite is:

Q.: This violist goes back home after a concert and stops by a store (accommodation) to by cigarettes. He forgets to lock his car and his viola case is on the back seat. When he comes back he thinks ‘shit I forgot to lock the door, I hope nobody stole my viola!’ and he runs to the car and looks through the window and Lo! There are two viola cases on the back seat…

But if you want more, here are some famous sites :

http://www.mit.edu/~jcb/jokes/viola.html

http://www.mit.edu/~jcb/jokes/viola2.html

That clearly shows that there might be some truth behind those…

Cheers

JEFX

Thank you, Jean-Francois! Great portion of good humour in one pack!

I had a half an hour of good laughing.

To be serious: I always looked at the musicians that perform art music with admiration. It's like high science amongst engineering... :)

Bodo, I can't access your track. Is it set to private?

I've been in rock bands since I was a teenager. (I'm considerably older now.)

Current band: Thurn & Taxis. Sadly, I'm writing all the music myself.

Only one tune up right now, but we're working on new (professionally recorded) stuff.

Thanks Yo-Yo,

It was my pleasure.

Talking about people doing art-music as you said or, for me, the orchestra-conductor relationship... I often think that what goes on in the mind of orchestra players and especially of the conductor (of course, I favor my own profession...) is almost of the same nature as what goes on in the mind of a fighter pilot... Things go so fast, driven by incredible sharp reflexes, and the potential for failure is always looming above your head (although, you dont get killed for it...). The only way to survive (this is an image of course) is by incredible training, therefore, instinct. Especially that, usually, as a guest conductor, you get a day or two of rehearsals, at the most, if not only a couple of rehearsals... One has to do most of the communication with the musicians (instruction on how you want things done) in real time at the concert... It is pretty scary, and yet, very exciting!

Hey Cornbread, just got soundcloud message, too. Thanks for the comments, tis much appreciated. :)

I'm using Cubase along with, what mostly at the time ,was either an Echo Gina24 leading on to a Mackie Onyx400F and more recently the RME Multiface2. I had a Korg TR Rack, a Novation Supernova, a Yamaha A3000 and a Proteus 2000 to help with a lot of the sounds.

A couple of years ago I sold most of this stuff as I started just playing a lot more piano and rarely firing up the PC for music purposes, I also started getting to the point where I wanted the money for other kit, like a new Studiologic keyboard and also the RME interface as my past keyboard was awful to play and Mackie weren't being the most supportive of their original Onyx range.

I use a few key bits of random software. Certain sample libs like Battery 3 and Ocean Way Drums, Fabfilter Twin, Volcano, Timeless and more often than not, the dynamics and effects bundled with Cubase 5. Ultra Analog stuff and a few others. If you need tips on anything then feel free to PM...

Cheers again!
