What if there is a ground mishap?

You follow the emergency ground egress procedures. The canopy jettison handles are in the cockpit and on the outside of military aircraft for just such a reason.

he should be able to egress down the ladder. Plus, most A-10 units have all the jets under some type of cover, he he tried to eject at Moody under the sunshades it wouldn't go good for him and ours are fabric (except for the metal supports). Some are completely metal.

I would sell my soul for that A-10C flight manual :D

And I'd go to jail...ok, maybe not that bad but I wouldn't have a USAF career anymore....

Even jettisoning the canopy shouldn't be needed. If an emergency is that bad that they need to jettison the canopy they have bigger issues....

Now, the checklist may say when to do it but most pilots arm the seat as soon as I (or another crew chief) strap them in the seat and are climbing down the ladder.

We have emergency T.O.s for F-15s that involve wearing a harness in case, you guessed it, both engines are running and you need to access the canopy.

Yeah, like, **** you, you can wear the god damn harness, I'm staying back here.

Hey Paul, does the A10c have explosive tape to shatter the canopy upon ejection ( like the Tornado GR3/4) or does the entire canopy get blown away from the jet?

There is a proceedure when the GR3 is running up, that the techs take cover when the pilot lowers the canopy, there have been cases of unrequested activation of the explosive charge!;)

Explosive tape o_O

I'd always wondered what that white stuff was on the canopy, I figured it was like, a weak point or something so if the canopy doesn't blow off, it'll break apart there when the seat goes through it.

No, nothing like that. AFAIK the only American aircraft that uses something like that on the canopy is the Harrier, and that's British so there you go.

No - canopy jettison cartridge:

Coupled with Canopy Breakers on either side of Headrest in case of failure.

Also, manual 'hammer', the canopy breaker tool:

AFAIK the only American aircraft....

T-45 Goshawk is another.

Like 159th_Viper the canopy jettisons but if for some reason it doesn't the ACES II is designed to break the glass. The canopy breaker tool works. We had a guy back in the 90s get suck in the pic, the canopy wouldn't open any more than an inch, after about 7 hours of trying to get it to release (the manual release handle only works when the canopy is closed and locked or completely open) they decided to have him use the canopy breaker tool.

The strip of tape along the top of the canopy is the lightning diverter tape.
