My wife is Polish\Russian and I was going to suprise her with a new tatoo with our daughter's name on it in Russian. I don't want to ask my wife for the correct spelling because then she will know something is up and I want it to be a suprise.

Our dauger's name is Aleksandra = александра - I'm pretty sure that's the correct translation - can anyone confirm?

thanks

Russian names

Aleksandra == Александра or Саша or Сашенька or Саня or Шурочка or Шура ;)

Russian woman have poetic names.. :) My ex girlfriend' name is Katserina, but also known as Katya, Katshush, Katshushka. Now i have it quite simply as Vika coz thats the only variation for Victoria. Perhaps Vikush is a differnt for my girfriend Vika? :) :)

Russian names are just poetry.

LOL!

Katshush, Katshushka - quite a interesting trasliteration :D Better to pronaunce it as Kat'usha or Kat`ushka.

ps: about Vikush - well, you may try call her with this, but keep yourself prepared for dodging flying saucers or frying pans :D:D:D

Russian names are just poetry.

Is it joke? We have 10 names for men and 15 for women, the rest just diminutives.

well, some rare russian names are definitely a poetry :) while most common names are quite plane in spelling.

ps: it is most OT from the beginning :D

When i was still a nitwit with the russian language i called her "Katushka" and she thought it was funny. I never knew why? But, my brother' wife (a russia, too) told me that a "Katush" is the needle for clothing handwork!! Hahahahaha, oke so i got the joke too :P.

Well it's always nice to learn some new russian words :). in 8 weeks i am going to Peterburg, Moscow, Volgograd, Nizhnij Novgorod so i will have plenty of oppertunity to practise the language there :)
