REL Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 I've found that if you enable Nose Wheel Steering prior to starting the engines the hawg moves around far less. Interesting ... I wonder what is the technical reason for that?
WindWpn Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Could "Chocks in" be tied to the Ground Crew "Ground Power" request? I believe someone mentioned that in a different thread, but may work since there will be no need for voice additions. "Simply" a chocks feature tied to the Ground Power radio command. Anyway, I see a lot of people are going to post threads like "whai my plane no move", etc, so they should defenately add some sort of fool proof system like if you give a certain amount of thrust ahead, you'll simply skip over the chocks and a slight bump will shake the aircraft and the ground crew will say "What are you doing?", etc, or maybe that's not realistic... I can GUARANTEE an F-16 can jump the chocks... and it doesn't have to be even close to max power to do it!! I've seen it done, and it ran right into an expeditor's van!! OUCH!!!:cry: An A-10 I doubt would... I believe it has the same engines that were on our Challenger 601's, and THEY would not jump chocks at almost full power!!! WarriorX Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 I can say with near certainty that if the wheel chock functionality is ever implemented, it will generate posts asking "Why won't my plane move?" That's OK, new features often do. I have faith this Community will rise to the occasion like so many times in the past and give their fellow pilots a helping hand in regards to these types of questions. But, it would be nice to have that option - for more realism (by asking the "Ground Crew" AKA Crew Chief to "Pull Chocks") I have the TM Warthog HOTAS and rarely have that problem - but I've had it a few times... Crashdown Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 Another thing one could do when on the ground would be pulling th Emergency Hand Brake. It's supposed to be used only if the hydraulics fail, but if some pilots are not able to keep the plane stationary for various reasons, it's there. It's probably misusing it, but it works. No idea if there are any long-term issues using it, however.
nomdeplume Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 (edited) Another thing one could do when on the ground would be pulling th Emergency Hand Brake. It's supposed to be used only if the hydraulics fail, but if some pilots are not able to keep the plane stationary for various reasons, it's there. This is repeatedly suggested, and the repeated response is the same: that's not what the emergency brake does. It's not like a hand brake in a car. It switches the brakes from the left hydraulic system to the emergency accumulator (which is charged from the right hydraulic system). If you lose your left engine you can pull the emergency brake lever to get your brakes back (albeit without anti-skid protection). If you lose both engines, the accumulator gives you two or three good pumps before it's out. P.S. The description of this in the flight manual (pdf page 146) could really do with some TLC... no wonder everybody thinks it works like a car's handbrake. Edited July 2, 2011 by nomdeplume

The description of this in the flight manual (pdf page 146) could really do with some TLC... no wonder everybody thinks it works like a car's handbrake. Indeed, the manual really need to be more clear on this. And I don't know how I missed this being mentioned previously in the thread. :music_whistling: Still, thanks for the explanation on how the Emergency Brake works, given that I've never had to use it, and as such I've never witnessed it in action.
