Frogfoot1606687865 Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Hi again, Last night I flew the second mission in the first campaign and for the first time ever returned to base with all three wingmen intact. However on getting clearance to land, each wingman in turn decided to fly across my path within a few feet of my canopy whilst shouting 'gear up' over an over again. Has anyone else come across that before? I was aiming for the centerline of the runway and if they were trying to land with me in formation they may have all panicked at the last minute. Do wingmen try to do formation landings with you now, if so I assume you need to be aiming for the right hand of the runway? Panzertard Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Well, I think we can safely assume the Player AI isn't necessarily the smartest one's around. It can also be part of the fact that the (AI) ATC may not have full control over the situation for landing, assuming you requested landing clearance? The mind is like a parachute. It only works when it's open | The important thing is not to stop questioning
bluepilot76 Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 That happened to me once in 1107, I decided it was because my AI wingman had no idea that I was landing, and were continuing to formate on me. As they got below altitude limits without gear and flap they started paniking and S turning around me in order to fly slow enough. Solved ever since by commanding them to RTB. Irregular programming Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 The wingman tries to land with you, I have never gotten that to work. He either tries to kill/ kills you or he flies of, this is Extremely annoying. Happens every time.
bluepilot76 Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Did you tell him to RTB? Technical Specs: Asus G73JW gaming laptop... i7-740QM 1.73GHz ... GTX460m 1.5GB ... 8GB DDR5 RAM ... Win7 64 ... TIR5 ... Thrustmaster T16000m
Frogfoot1606687865 Posted June 5, 2011 Author Posted June 5, 2011 No, I had commanded them to rejoin when leaving the hot zone, flew back to base and called 'inbound', I then received clearance to land and got the check gear message. A couple of km from the strip in landing configuration, flaps down speedbrakes deployed, AOA and glideslope perfect and the muppet wingmen start to fly at me like crows mobbing a hawk, now if I hadn't been winchester...... BBQ Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 until you tell them to RTB, they will try to maintain formation. Just be thankful you are leading flight--and don't have to follow them, as in the case below!
HiJack Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Landing with wingman works each and every time here. Flight lead (you) land on left laine and wingman 2 lands on right. You must keep the right speed (150) and AoA towards the runway. You must slow down to 135 on the last few meters on the approach. You must not have more than 50% air brake on the approach. At the touchdown you go to full with air brakes. Easy ;) A tip is to set up a pair of AI flights with wingmen and watch them land. Make sure you make note of their approach and landing speed! (HJ)
Frostiken Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 I've had AI try to kill me twice - both times after an aborted approach. The first time, my wingman cut mere inches across my nose (I almost pooped) and careened into number three (four seemed to be taxiing back to base from 15 miles away after sustaining some damage... what the **** was that about...). The second time he didn't miss me and knocked me out of the sky. When I watched in TacView, they were both doing some sort of crazy ****ing corkscrew thing back and forth, while I was flying straight and level. Now I just tell them to anchor until they run out of fuel and die. Hopefully. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Iceman2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Reminds me of one flight, when we 4 were RTB - two went and landed, some 15 mins passed, then I began wondering hey where's my wingman takes a lot of time coming here. Then I thought I go to him, cause I land last. AAAnd there he comes with one rudder left and says "RTB"! I checked debriefing window "building destroyed" IT WASN'T US!!

He went to show his moves to former ex girlfriend, and hence a missing rudder. This space is available for your advertisement

(HJ) I guess my AoA must be wrong, because I CANNOT get this to work. I always think everything is fine, and then my wingman says "wheels up" and aborts the landing. 150 also seems slow, since the AI seems to be approaching at 160-170 when I watch him land. Can you post a track?
