I want to practice flying with NVG. I also want to see what it is like. Is it possible to change the time in a "Free Flight..." mission?

I don't think you can change the starting time of existing missions using e.g. the mission planner.

You could use the fast mission generator and tell you want to fly at night, or create (or alter) a mission in the mission editor. If you do the latter, you can set the mission start time in the briefing window (kinda clipboard looking icon near the top of the toolbar).

On that subject, just FYI:

Make sure you change it in the briefing screen not the window for the pilots waypoints. If you change just the briefing start time it seems to bump any other times with it.

If you just change the time for your pilot, the mission will still start at the time in the briefing and your plane won't appear until hours later. It was a little bit funny when I figured out what I was doing wrong.

Also, if you are new to night flying in A-10, make sure you know where/what the various light controls are to dim some of the up front instruments.

Yep. Use the mission editor, open a mission, edit time on the briefing screen, save to "My Missions". Then go back to the main meny, select mission and the folder "My Missions". There it is.

I love playing The Serpents Head at night :joystick:

Or go to "create fast mission" from the main menu and you can adjust the time there, and details for targets if you go into "advanced mode".

While we are on this subject.... What about dates???

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

In the mission editor, the last field in the time is the number of days. I'm not sure what date day 0 is. But if you set the start time to e.g. 90 days, then it'll be 3 months after whatever 'day 0' is.

Also note, the calendar starts with June 1st as day 0.

For example, to set the mission date to July 1, set the day value to 30. To set the mission date to November 1, set the day value to 153.

The default starting time for all missions is 12:00:00/0 (12:00 pm, June 1st). Changing the starting time and date will affect the position and motion of the sun, moon and stars to correspond to the time of day and year set.

Note: If you wish to adjust the darkness of night missions, you can adjust the mission start date to a date when the moon is less visible.
