RSharpe Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 You will probably notice I changed the mainboard again. Thats because the MSI one fried. Military class my rear. the model is ASUS P8P67 Deluxe. MSI makes great custom designed video cards, but their motherboards seem to have a high failure rate.
Pilotasso Posted July 2, 2011 Author Posted July 2, 2011 Congrats for the new Rig Pilo. Is your CPU 32 or 64 bits? What rating do you get in the "Performance Information and Tools" window? THX! its 64 bit, I think they are all now. Rating is 7.6 for processor and 7.9 for everything else. I didnt get the max because i think windows punishes you for not having hyperthreading which I dont need and saved myself 80 €. Tried a few games and its as bit as fast as my bros I52600K which scored 7.9 in all categories. .
Pilotasso Posted July 2, 2011 Author Posted July 2, 2011 (edited) Nice  How loud is it (subjectively)? Its mostly silent on idle I can sleep next to it, but you can hear the H60 fan spin up and the 3 GFX fans spin up during games. Its not a problem because the souds coming out of the games easely muffles the case. The cases 3 big fans are almost inaudible. My previous system had all noctua fans, 7 of them, I think the level of noise is similar except when my GTX 470 would go unbearably loud during benchmarks. Much louder than what i have now. Plus this system is also cooler. So I guess its a total win. Edited July 2, 2011 by Pilotasso .

Bolt-1 Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 Very nice build "pilot" you got some great parts and you put together a very nice system. Very clean. Which is what I need to do to mine as I put it together rather quickly. About 3 months ago. I'm not surprised at the performance your getting. Take a look at my sig. What do you think. Pretty close to what you put together huh ? And I'm enjoying the same performance you are. It's a beautiful thing isn't it. Scudslaker Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 verry nice rig!) i will get my sandy system this next week. maybe one help is needed with my cpu choice..i m not sure if the 2500k or the i7 2600k variant is the better choice. is the 2600k worth the 80 € for the plus cache..or why have you chosen the 2500k TM HOTAS WH :joystick:, Saitek Pro Pedals, Track IR 4, 2xJoyWarrier, 1x KeyWarrior, i52500k @4600MHz, ASUS P8Z68-V Pro, NV 670GT, SSD+ WD BC+ WD Raptor, 32HD:pilotfly:[sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Pilotasso Posted July 3, 2011 Author Posted July 3, 2011 I chosen the I2500K because there wont be any apps or games soon using all 8 threads. When they do there will be octa cores and deca cores anyway. Hyperthreading is a poor substitute for phisical cores. .

Succellus Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 Pilotasso, i live on Brazil so 35 aint so rare my PC is in a small room and near 40 celsius is to be considered. I have the noctua 14 on a HAF medium (932) i actually have passed the upper fan case to the side as inductor and put 2 12mm fan where it was blowing out air of the case + front fan inward and rear fn outward So in resume, it cools the room in plain summer.... And at full testing its medium warm. I didn t get the full case for lack of space, and i m happy i did not need such a monster, i had the same fears you have. So Noctua is good enought and its cheaper (i think). Congrat on the killing machine. Generally speaking I would doubt that you'd run it well (if at all) on 4.5GHz at 1.028v. If your OC is acheived through the use of the turbo mode, for example, your voltage will apply to operation without the turbo, and when applying turbo the BIOS will apply extra voltage as it sees fit. (And 1.38x volt seems roughly right for a BIOS-applied turbo voltage setting.) leafer Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 (edited) Would the performance gain from overclocking my i3 be worth the trouble and the price of a new heatsink (I'm thinking the Zalman CNPS10X extreme)? Someone recommended the 1155 socket but that would mean a new mobo and I just thought that money could go to new vid card and ram instead. edit: sorry for the threadjacked Pilotasso. Mud Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Depends on how heavy your CPU load is at the moment I'd say. On my system the obvious bottleneck is the graphics card. They usually tell you CPU rated speed instead of actual speed. 1.028V and 1.384V are the iddle voltage and CPU rated voltage respectivelly (or auto voltage that the bios feels is more stable at full speed) but usually its much higher than the actual stable Voltage. You must try your stable voltage yourself. But beware when you, do the CPU will be then permanently locked onto the turbo frequency. Edited July 13, 2011 by Pilotasso .

Yes your on a dilema there, you can do 1 thing or the other but not the 2 to eliminate obvious botlenecks. I would advise to hold and save the money and then take the jump when you saved enough for both. .
