pitbldr Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 (edited) After over two months of an insane work schedule, I actually had some free time this weekend to work on my pit. :D Didn't have any time to run the laser and engrave any UFC's though as my wife had people over and the noise would have been annoying. :( Anyway, I did manage to get the framwork for the left and right consoles done and also fabricate a base for the WH that would work with my playseat. I had orignally wanted to buy/build and ACESII style seat, but for space reasons, I decided to go with the Playseat. Worked out pretty well I think. The monitor shelf is temporary until I can build my front dash and get an LCD TV mounted. Still alot of work to do on the consoles and panels - painting, installing switches, and wiring, but it sure feels good to have made some progress on it! Unfortunately, I am going to be slammed with work again in July, so I don't expect to get much else done until August. :( WARNING - cockpit purists may want to avert your eyes from the images. I am not going for 100% acurracy, so you'll definitely see some compromises in my console design. :D Edited June 27, 2011 by pitbldr
pitbldr Posted June 27, 2011 Author Posted June 27, 2011 Oh... wanted to mention how awesome the sim is now with a centered mounted stick! I was really susprised at how much of a difference that made. :) 1
Cali Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 I think it looks great! and so what if it's not 100% correct. Some people are just anal about stuff like that. I may think about putting some fake switches in my pit. i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
Avilator Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Hey, if you like it, then that's your deal. I think I'm going to use the unsimulated switches to perform simulator functions unrelated to flying the plane. I only respond to that little mechanical voice that says "Terrain! Terrain! Pull Up! Pull Up!" Who can say what is impossible, for the dream of yesterday is the hope of today and the reality of tomorrow. -Robert Goddard "A hybrid. A car for enthusiasts of armpit hair and brown rice." -Jeremy Clarkson "I swear by my pretty floral bonet, I will end you." -Mal from Firefly
pitbldr Posted June 27, 2011 Author Posted June 27, 2011 All my switches will be (are) real. Most of them are actual A-10 switches. The areas that are not 100% accurate are in the layout of some panels (i.e. the SAS panel is not even with the throttle in the real jet) and the width of the consoles - there's less space between the inner and outer panels. I plan to have everthing backlit and displays on all the appropriate panels like the CDU, ILS, etc. Those will most likely be added much later.
Cali Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 I didn't mean to say your switches aren't real. Just saying I may add some fake ones to my pit, since I really don't care about the realism part in my pit. i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
metalnwood Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Looks good and who cares if they are not 100%, you are a lot closer than 99.9% of us! :) Yep, the stick is a different beast when its center mounted,a lot nicer I think. I have a similar set up, I have a small pedestal where the top overhangs the seat so I don't need a section cut from the seat but it is still closer to my body. One thing I have done which I suspect you might do after some scrapes is to round off that plate to make it flush with the base of the stick. I wouldn't want anything to happen the the man bits...

I didn't think you were.... was just clarifying since I mentioned some stuff was not accurate in mine. :D

That would be bad conversation to have with my doc... :megalol: I plan to round it off and then cover it with something what will improve the look of it and also protect me and the cables from any edges.
Succellus Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Awesome Stuff. People dedication amaze me! I m not doing half of what you do and people label me insane. juankeiko Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 You've left me open-mouthed. No doubt you have done an excellent job. As one partner, many of us would like to have a cockpit like yours. Duckling Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 ...WARNING - cockpit purists may want to avert your eyes from the images. ..... :D nag nag nag... LOL. You pretty darn close yourself, hehe. Great progress and admire the quality of your build. Keep it up and don't loose hope during the upcomming workload. There will be even better (building) days to come :) /Gus - - - -

juankeiko Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Hi again Pitbldr. Like you told before, you have not space enough in your home, it's like me, but i must tell you that i am building the pilot chair and it's not so big like i thought. Ok, just a bit heheheh. In the forum i found this and i hope that it can help you: http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=41621&d=1281675713 http://www.pbase.com/tejay/seat_project And remember , your cockpit goes for good way. GOOD FLIGHTS with your simer. Cheers man . ;) ---=ONLY ANGELS FLY HIGHER=----[sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Cuando llegues al final de tu cuerda, haz un nudo y aguanta. I wish I had the room to build one of those and keep my playseat, but there's only enough room for one... so the playseat will have to do for now. Maybe one day when I am in a bigger house with a dedicated "man cave" I can have both! :D
Cali Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 I use to have a man-cave, but when we moved a few months ago, the cave was lost. Now I have a small part in the dining room, that is where my computer and pit are at. About your center stick and the edges, you can put some foam or something else around it to "protect" yourself. i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED

pcalvert Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Brilliant work pitbldr. It will look fantastic when it is all backlit :) Asus Rampage II Extreme, i7 920 @3.8Gh, 6Gb Corsair Dominator 1600hz, Msi GTX 470 Twin Frozr, Corsair 850w Mod PSU, TIR 5, HOTAS WH
98abaile Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 How'd you get the twist in the stick pitbldr? Or did you just rotate the entire mount?
pitbldr Posted June 29, 2011 Author Posted June 29, 2011 Thanks! :) How'd you get the twist in the stick pitbldr? Or did you just rotate the entire mount? Yep, just rotated the entire mount about 10-12 degrees. Feels pretty good so far, but I may decide to rotate it a few more degrees after I've spent more time flying.
98abaile Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Is it weird having to push it at a different angle than the plane's orientation?
pitbldr Posted June 29, 2011 Author Posted June 29, 2011 Not at all. I would say it actually feels more natural this way.
