lazduc Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Hello, Purchased the hotas warthog controller. After reading a lot of posts and the latest post which was a continued problem with the units dying. Has anyone come to a solution for this problem. My serial number is 07110. I am not going to plug in this device until I am sure its not going to die on me. I think this controller has the latest firmware.....is there anyway to tell the revision without this unit failing? I have read asus motherboards are the culpret. Also plugging into a external powered usb hub may stop the failure. Do any of the owners of this have any advice before I plug this in and fire it up? I have built a new computer for this. :helpsmilie: Thanks, Lazduc
MackTheKnight Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Sometimes you just gotta take chances... ;) Seriously, I think there are more HOTAS Warthog controllers out there without problems then there are with. The failure rate is probably quite low. It's just that the people with issues are the ones we hear most about. We don't often hear from the satisfied customers. I purchased my HOTAS Warthog when they first came out and I've had 0 issues with it and many flight hours on it. Just make sure your firmware is up to date and you should hopefully be fine. If all else fails and you end up having problems, that's what warranty's are for. :) If you download the latest drivers from Thrustmaster, they come with the latest firmware. Run the firmware update utility and it will tell you if you need to update your firmware or not. Good luck and enjoy your HOTAS Warthog! (We know you will! ;) )
Succellus Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 (edited) I was like you when i bought it....With the data allowed to be gathered in its pike the failure rate was around 1% max 2%. Since latest patch failure has dropped well below that. Only way to know if your patched is: 1) download from TM site and install T.A.R.G.E.T 2) Download the latest formware installer program as well as the firmware. 3) Plug your toy and check firmware displayed in Target. 4) Upgrade is needed. If it bricks remember its only the throttle. Try hard reboot, not working ask for switch to a new unit where you bought it, not working contact TM aftersale, don t forget to ask for fret refund if its the case. If you feel confident you can send the throttle board only and ask them for sending another back, they have accepted before. Relax, all in life is a gamble or a leap of faith, this is just another. PS: Asus isn t the case MAC, AMD, MSI and other brands have bricked too. LawnDart Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Check the little tag attached to your USB cord, if it says V1 you have older firmware. I believe the ones that say V3 (and newer) have firmware pre-loaded that has had much fewer problems. I honestly haven't kept up with this issue, since it's seemingly fixed with the new firmware - but checking the tag wouldn't hurt I suppose. Regardless, I'd plug it in... and update your firmware with the latest from TM's site ASAP. Not because I think your unit would fail, but because it's the right thing to do. So far so good, like others have said just update your firm-ware if you don't have the latest and you should be good to go. If your throttle does brick, from the threads I've read for those that have had it happen to them, TM support was good and got it fixed/replaced.
Tiger27 Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 Purchased my Warthog last week and received it on Monday, I have checked the firmware and it is at v11 for the stick and v20 for the throttle, or maybe that is the other way around, I'm unfortunately at work so cant check, but either way they are now shipping with the latest firmware on both devices and so far my throttle is working fine:thumbup: I must say I owned a CH fighterstick for more than 10 years and was shattered when I broke the shaft, but this Warthog has made me forget my past love, it is awesome even when not gaming the stick is god damn sexy and that ice cool metal:lol: I got it for an early 50th and as I said to the wife, even if it eventually dies I can still put it on the mantle piece for show:joystick: III/JG11_Tiger

Witchking Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 I totally agree..the warthog is sexy enough that I like to look at it and touch and feel the stick while I walk by my gaming area even when I am not playing it. I hope thrustmaster don't wait another 10y before they make another hotas/controller like this.
