So, the first mission after comprehensive training and billions of tax payer dollars spent on me, and I manage to drop the bridge. Two SU-25s loom the airspace and I decide to engage them, lest command would give me a hard time. So I go ahead, from 12000 feet, turn hard left and start the AIM-9 on scan mode, then the bastards climb and shoot my right rudder off before I was able to lock on. I order my wingman to engage bandits so they'd have something else to think about. I hump it back to base, fighting drag and side sway, to arrive to the pit upside down.

Really, I'm impressed the aircraft functions exactly as in real life. My hand is twitching now from the sustained angle I was holding the aircraft... I think I should get a medal. :smilewink:

Here is the track: Enjoy

AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

I think command are more likely to give you a hard time for recklessly endangering yourself, your wingman and your airframes by trying to dogfight with enemy aircraft in your ground attack plane. :P There's CAP and SEAD flights in that mission which you can release using the radio (F10 'Other' submenu).

But, congrats. It's pretty good fun bringing a wounded jet home. Almost worth getting yourself shot up for! :D

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: Aye, and the best part is that I crashed inverted... :P.

You can't feel the sim unless you get a wing (or an aileron for that matter) clipped. The feeling of invulnerable is lame, and it puts you as God, when you could be easily shot down.. I only flew to 12000 ft, because I wanted the GBU-10 to have enough altitude to shake its ass right and home in properly, hence the 30 seconds lase time on the DSMS... I know there is CAP and SEAD, but I wanted a medal for shooting both bastards down... Now they get a medal for shooting me down.. :pilotfly:.. Well then, off to the restart campaign button. :book:

Maybe I'll drop them this time before attending to the bridge. :joystick:

Edit: it's not like I picked a SU-37 flanker to mess with, these boys are alot like me, CAS too. But their Gsh cannon spoke for itself, now my avenger will speak for myself too :D

:)

They plinked you with an Aphid (R-60).

If you're gonna tangle with a Toad, jettison your externals, dive for energy and get underneath them for a sidewinder/cannon kill - keep the fight out of the vertical as you'll always get spanked in a Hog if you attempt that.

How do you play the .trk file?

Download the track file and place it in your Saved Games/DCS Warthog/Tracks folder.

Run the SIM and from the SP GUI hit the 'Replay' tab. Choose the relevant track, sit back and watch.

Here is another track from a night RP armor interdiction mission (the Alaska mission). So, some SAM decides that my wingman shouldn't live after clearing up some of the armor for Pine and Mace MBT company, so, I take it personal and decide to fry him.. He starts pinging on me. I dive at first for a cannon/rocket attack, but discover that the setting of preflight are not implemented on both racks. Luckily for me, he's burrowed in a valley and a mountain next to him is where I retired from the first attack, re-configured the rocket launcher, and circled back for another shot at him. The prick fires 4 or 5 missiles at me, and I'm out of flares, and my chaffs got expended on the first approach. Har Har Har Arrrrgggghh!!!!

Nice!

P.S. unless I'm mistaken, you should still only lase that last 10-15 seconds even if dropping from 12,000 +.

Hey thanks! I know I should have lase at 10-15 secs, but I'm using 30 for better homing in case something goes unexpected such as veering off PBRL last second.. But I'll try doing it for 15 secs.

I agree, especially when the tgt is stationary and you got a nice pickle (wings level, constant speed, etc), the less lase time the better, right?

Exactly

That's the thing, the longer your lase time, the more likely your munitions will fall short. The LGB wants to fly to the pointer. As lase time increases, your LGB's trajectory gets flatter. There is a great graphic somewhere that explains this pretty clearly, but I can't seem to find it. Here is my awful attempt to duplicate it:

Hey thanks! Really appreciate stuff like that (illustrations). You got me. I'm doing it 15 afterwards. ;)

No problem - I think I've got the basic idea right, but wouldn't mind being corrected on this issue.

Also, I think that most folks would tell you that 8-10 seconds is ideal, but in the end, whatever works for you is best!
