Hello,

I want to know more about a TrackIR system ! Does anyone use that...is it workable with DCS-A10 and what do you advise to use (brand, type) !

Some video's on tube look very promising but i want to know a little more from experience from users !

Thank you to inform me !

I would not ever try to guess how many here use TIR but the number is significant. Personally, aside from the price and the somewhat fragile proclip there is nothing about TIR that I could complain about.

I does exactly what it is supposed to do and it does it better than any other method you can use to look around in a game.

If you have specific question feel free to ask!:)

As for brand and type, as a commercial product TIR is the only thing out there that does it. There are cobble together packages using freely available software and other PC camera solutions but Natural Point's TIR is the only off the shelf solution that I am aware of.

I don't know if you are looking at TrackIR demos or what but if you look at DCS A-10 vids on YouTube, pretty much everything you see is going to have been made with TrackIR.

Another satisfied TrackIR 5 user here. I agree with cichlidfan that the clip that you wear on your head (attached to headphones) is a bit fragile, but it works brilliantly.

There's also a homemade alternative, FaceTrackNoIR that you might want to check out if you're on a tight budget: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=56837

I've tried a lot of alternative options, FaceTrackNoIR, Webcam IR tracking software, and everything in between, all of them had random different problems. Bad frame rates, poor tracking at extreme angles, batteries for hat LED's running out, old cameras with bad drivers, I could go on all day.

Eventually after constant frustration I took the plunge and bought the TrackIR 5, and let me say, I felt stupid for all the time I wasted on all the, previous attempts, because the TIR is INCREDIBLE. So much better, faster, more accurate, smoother and reliable than anything else out there. I couldn't imagine flying without it now!

When you've just dropped a GBU-12 on an angry Zeus' from angels 16, banked 45º and turned away, then you've just gotta watch the TGP and hope it hits. But with the TIR, you can lift your head up and look over the edge of the bathtub and watch your baby find its target from pickle to pop!

Buy one right now, I guarantee you'll be blown away by the results.

I wish someone like SimHQ could do an objective comparison between FaceTrackNoIR and TrackIR, and most importantly some feedback from NaturalPoint as to whats coming down the pipe...

I don't doubt that TrackIR has superior tracking, the killer question is how much better having given both solutions a fair chance to perform.

I have a TrackIR 4

TrackIR 4 is past generation and OK

TrackIR 5 is present generation and $$$

has a slightly wider view & slightly better 'resolution'

standard these come with a clipon with 3 reflectors you would attach to a cap

I attached mine to the top part of my wireless headset

(AND added some reflective tape at 90dgs to Increase the Angle of 'reception',

on Ebay there were reflective Balls to tinker with the clip, for the same idea)

No Wires!

TrackClip supposedly is an 'improvement' (of another 30-40$)

no reflectors, but 3 IR LEDs

and has an USB wire (duh)

I hear both good and bad experiences reported about this TrackClip

so, good luck

.. I like my setup very much .. but would of course now want the 5 over the 4 if I could seperate myself from the additional 50$

I also have Trackir4 and I love it!

comparing trackir with freetrack:

Trackir will have more fps than any affordable webcam.

Trackir requires no batterypack on your head. freetrack does need batteries to power the leds.

Freetrack looks ugly and requires work.

Trackir is more expensive.

Trackir has a precision mode.

Trackir4 is available for €120 in europe. Freetrack costs about €30

if you make freetrack with a 60fps webcam and good leds which are positioned very precise, you'll get about the same performance.
