WildBillKelsoe Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 for the 8th (yes eighth) time I've flown this mission. I cant finish it. Here is the default flight plan: Now a few points: Waypoints SAM/SAM 2/SAM 3 are solid presence enemy SAM units, with SAM 2 waypoint being the MANPADS hidden behind the settlement buildings. Everytime I fly over 240 ASL, I get tagged, primarily by AA fire from SAM. Tanks are ruthless. Low flight, Hight flight, mountain cover wont cut it. I have to be exactly 7 klicks to tag the bastards. Problem is, 7 clicks from Ingress (which is Egress btw on the diagram), I seem to be in range of SAM 3. Worsened by terrain dips and crevices, I have to be high up the mountain to get a visual on all vehicles, and approximately at the mountain valley northwest SAM 3, permeated by a river channel, to get a fix on targets north of Agaraki. The bastard Mi-24 seems to take the hills east of Arasadzy'kh as a base of operation. So that means that everytime I takeoff, I run into this overzealous mo@#&^#!*)(#!!!!, and get tagged. Then as I finish him at Bay'b, I get toasted by a missile launch from SAM 3 site. Exactly how is this recon, when you're not taking photos? Let alone cant send the wingman more than 2 clicks and he constantly gets shot by SAM site, even though he IS datalinked to engage discovered SAM 3 site, the AI constantly moves South to SAM site and then points nose to SAM 3, by the time he is tagged, I'm still wondering how I complete the mission without discovered threats.. Furthermore, I dont like the idea of a supernatural Mi-24, with climbing face to face and him spraying me with his nozzle, while I'm having trouble acquiring the bastard thanks to limited shkval movement. Eventually, two KH-25MLs fired, none hit the bastard. Laser guidance my @ss!! I killed him with the cannon.. My request: Guys, what to do if I want to finish this? I'm having trouble discovering SAMs without a wingman, let alone killing intended units, and scoring 100% (let alone 75%) to close the file on this one. Sincerely, AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Nate--IRL-- Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Just Checked my ATO-A-P3.4.miz and the Flight plan looks nothing like that, but in general you will nearly always make your own, to account for the threats shown on the map. Anyway, You should be safe enough to hover a half a click behind and to the north of your front line in Bzy'b. That will keep you outside the range of the Manpads and out of range of the Tanks and Strelas. From this vantage pick off the tanks and strelas, then proceed to recon the HQ. Tanks are Dangerous from about 3.5 km so they are nearly impossible to pick off with the gun, but it can be done, if desperate. As for the Mi-24s, cowardice is the best part of valour, run away and attempt to draw them into your SHORAD. If I want to place the detection (trigger) circles on the ABRIS map, or objective areas on the ABRIS map, is it possible to do so in the Mission Planner? Please tell how. jib Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Also note Vikhr missiles can be effective at much longer than 7km if you switch to manual weapons release and put a bit of height and inertia (air speed) behind them. You mean height only.. Speed is irrelevant. I think so. Why would you want to accelerate a missile that is faster than your aircraft?? I default loaded 2 KH-25ML's for taking out Shilka and other SAM sites. And now, I just finished 35% of the mission and got shot by a tank main cannon. I blew up in mid-air... Maybe I skipped some closer to hover point, but guys, please finish it and give me the new player.LUA file. This is the player.LUA file for this mission in campaign order. I'm not flying this mission again. http://www.mediafire.com/file/5kndjtaibh51dhm/Players.lua Hint: Place it in \dcs black shark\BlackShark\data\scripts\Logbook\ AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS Fat T is above, thin T is below. MTFDarkEagle Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 You mean height only.. Speed is irrelevant. I think so. Why would you want to accelerate a missile that is faster than your aircraft?? No! Speed AND altitude. Think of it this way: You're speeding by at 100 km/h, and you accelerate a rocket by + 50 km/h, the end speed would be 150. If your own speed would be 0, the end speed would be 50! You can probably imagine the drop in range. Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread

It isn't possible to put Threat circle in the mission planner AFAIK. I tend to add waypoints and Targets points to indicate safe positions. WildBillKelsoe Posted October 27, 2011 Author Posted October 27, 2011 Alright boys and girls!! Time for Tactical Planning.. First: the Body count.. Note the following: Range on SA-13 Strela-10M3 is 5000 meters, Range on SA-9 Strela-1 9P31 is 4200 meters.. SA-8 Osa 9A33 is out of range and stuck in nearby airport. We wont have to go all the way there... Besides, *2 SKP-11 MCPs were on the scene, and as soon as the second was taken out, and as soon as the Ural was also taken out, the mission was concluded.. Second: Default route with problems Note the following: Ingress set on the tip of Strela detection zone.. As well as in max range of MANPADs south of Nav Point 2 Third: New Route with ABRIS objects fully loaded.. Note: New Route is away from MANPADs, Strela, and provides a direct visual on elements such as Strela. More importantly, standoff range of 6850 meters from both SAM sites, and not even in close proximity to MANPADs sites.. Fourth: Default Route without map clutter: It is my pleasure to announce the mission is over. I got a 100% completion. My wingman died as I did recon and engaged both Strela with Kh-25ML (not direct impact and had to RTB and load Vikhrs, but before RTB, both datalinked to wingman, yet he was also shot down before he could engage.. I guess he followed the default route..) --> That shows the importance of briefing, and planning route ahead, and not just jumping in on the action... Teeps Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Excuse the thread resurrection, but I've just succeeded on this mission after ages of going back and forth and repeated failures! My winning tactic was to treat it like a recon mission, rather than a one-shark army fighting it's way through the valley. From the FARP I headed to just North of central Bay'b, then dashed South across the valley as quick and low as I could to hide in the hills on the Southern side. I took a couple of laser warnings on the way across, but nobody managed to get a shot off. Once safely across the valley I flew East above the hills but close to the ground to stay out of sight of everything in the valley. I came up to the recon target from the South, took two or three Iglas on the nose but kept on trucking, detected all the targets, blew them up, then retraced my path and headed for home. Unfortunately my wingnut died early on - he's not really suited to sneaking about! Win10 x64, 16 GB RAM, Ryzen 5 1600X @3.60 GHz, 500 GB SSD, GeForce 1080 Ti

But the challenge of going there back and forth is rewarding. Please accept my camarade invite. AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS Fat T is above, thin T is below.
