sgibson Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Hi, Some of the multi-player mussions (don't remeber the names of the missions) are pretty much full with SAMs that need to be taken out. Is it really the case in real world scenario that they would send in A-10s to clear the area from SAMs? Sounds more like a job for something like an F-16?!
EtherealN Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Depends on the type. You might be possibly be tasked to handle a few SHORAD if necessary, but obviously it's not quite the normal use of a CAS aircraft. It is, however, tonnes of fun. :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
159th_Viper Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Depends on the SAM system you are referring to - Any short-range systems (Tor/Tung/Strela/Osa/Stryker/Avenger etc etc) are easy-pickings. Bushmanni Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 (edited) In first Gulf War A-10s were tasked to destroy a long range radar SAM site as it usually kept silent when lots of aircraft were flying overhead and turned on only randomly when Iraqis thought there wasn't any SEAD aircraft around. In order to get it out of action they needed something that can go low and slow, find it, identify it, kill it and confirm it's dead. But yeah, that's the kind of exception you do in war to surprise the enemy by doing something unorthodox which is done only once as it works only because it's unexpected. "just lock on god dammit! LOCK ON!" and you are already getting painted for a missile launch, popping some chaff and using the jammer you buy yourself a few seconds... Still no lock. The jammer stops jamming, you get painted again and are like "GET A DAMN LOCK YOU PIECE OF JUNK" and then finally you get a lock. Missile away - you are popping chaff, not getting painted anymore and GTFO. In like 30-40 seconds you see a nice little "X killed Y with Maverick". :) INTENSE! Arclight Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 Try using a Mav H in force correlate. Can have yer target locked up long before it comes within firing range. ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] DCS A-10C: putting the 'art' into 'warthog'. (yes, corny. Sorry.)
Megagoth1702 Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 The only downside of force correlate is is that it'S pretty hard to use at night and that it does not track vehicles. And it does not like bad weather. But yeah man, it's the sniper mode for the mavericks. :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] System specs:2500k @ 4.6 GHz 8GB RAM HD7950 OC'd Win7 x64 Posting tracks to make your DCS better - attention bump incoming!
Arclight Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 Just as easy to use at night, provided you have a TGP to set an accurate SPI. Just set it in force correlate mode, slave to SPI and TMS up to lock. :joystick: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] DCS A-10C: putting the 'art' into 'warthog'. (yes, corny. Sorry.)

Hell yeah. :D Wasn't made to display that specifically, but it got hairy quick when I had made a little mistake in placing myself too close to the units. The most fun ever though is to go up against long-range SAMs (they type you really aren't supposed to go up against :P ) and use popup attacks with terrain masking to try taking them out. Those are rediculously intense couple seconds when you try to line up the shot with enough time to dodge under the hill to hide from that high explosive set of flagpoles that are already flying towards you. :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
Stuka Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 . In like 30-40 seconds you see a nice little "X killed Y with Maverick". :) INTENSE! Or disable those messages completely, and gain visual verification that you destroyed target. Way more realistic.
