Do i have to deinstall and reinstall or is the patch being pushed?

**edit**: i have reinstalled DCS A-10. Steam still installs 1.1.0.9 version. After that i downloaded the 1.1.1.0 patch. As i wanted to install the patch it asks for a directory. I map the installer to the common steam dir. The installer stops and gives an error that it needs version 1.1.0.9 to be installed.

Probably im asking a silly question cause nobody gives a reaction, or is it cause im a steam user?

I don't use steam, but I have read that people just view the CD key first and then uninstall steam and just download the whole v1.1.1.0 from DCS website and use their steam serial.

The steam version cannot be patched via the download from ED, AFAIK that is not going to change.

Steam rolls the patch on their own schedule so if you want the patch now you will need to do as Freefall indicated.

Copy down the key from Steam. Download and install the full version from ED. Then activate using the key from Steam. Actually, you may not even have to activate it since the registry info should already be there.

Nice to hear! Did the new install ask for serial, or automatically found it in the Windows Registry?

The new install found the serial in the registry. I thought i had to activate for a second time, but that was not the case.

Very nice that i am able to run A-10 without steam. I have a OCZ Vertex 3 120 GB for my windows install. Steam games can only be installed at the drive were the steam installation is located. I use a program "Steammover" which is able to move games to another drive / directory and makes a hardlink for steam, so steam still thinks it on the steam installation drive.

I tried to move A-10C to my OCZ for better loading performance but at the end i got an error, so i was not able to play A-10 from my OCZ. But now i installed A-10 directly to my OCZ which is very nice!! (but it doesn't make the sim easier:)

The real problem is all the people who bought DCS: A-10C off Steam last weekend when it was on sale. Install the game and are stuck with 1.1.0.9 and unable to play with the rest of us, or even see how many servers are available and will never know the difference.

There's nothing in Steam that tells you 1.1.1.0 is available, it proudly tells you that 1.1.0.9 is the latest version and that you're fully updated. If you didn't know about this forum you'd probably never know you can install the real product.

disable auto update on Steam ( right click on the A10 in library of Steam and select propriety ).... and try, it was work before 1.1.10 with that, but i have not try with 1.1.10 .. so maybe im wrong.

( when 1.1.10 is out i have decided do a clear install of it, without steam )

How to get the latest update my question also, thanks for the answers everybody. One quick question:

If I am going to get rid of steam, is there anything else I need to make a copy of / back up besides my serial number and .lua file?

TM Warthog, Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals, Cougar MFDs, TrackIR 5, 3 23" monitors, 19" monitor (for MFDs), GTX 570, GTX 560 Ti, 64gig SSD, 8 gigs ram, i7 3.4GHz, 1K PSU, 2.1 speakers, all wrapped up in a "leftover plywood" home-built cockpit.

I don't know but it's possible 1.1.1.1 patch does install onto 1.1.1.0 steam version if you have it but I don't know.

Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing

Steam version is 1.1.0.9 right now, not even 1.1.1.0. :(

Hi Acare,

I can feel you are bored on how Steam does not give very much support to this great sim. I just wanted to say : drop Steam. I was like you and now I am a former user of it. I removed my Steam version 2-3 weeks ago and then did a full instal of the 1.1.1.1 version from the DCS website. Everything went fine and everything is working nicely so far (except probably one SP mission downloaded from this forum...). I didn't even have to give my Steam key, since the new instal found it by itself somehow.

But before removing anything of the Steam version of the sim, save your "DCS A10C" folder found in your "saved games" folder anywhere you want, remove everything and download the files (there are 4) using what is fastest for you (http, FTP or Torrent). I used FTP but Torrent is said much safer against file corruption.

Hoping it can help

It's because of Steam that I even heard of this game. I don't think the lack of 1.1.1.0 patch on Steam is Steam's fault. It feels like Eagle Dynamics has to officially send them the patch or something. Not exactly sure how it works. But it's strange Steam can update all other games that have updates, but not A-10?

My opinion is, if you're going to put your product on Steam and support it. Then don't stop supporting it.

Please, don't missunderstand me : I like Steam very much (I discovered DCS A10C thank to Steam also). But apparently, Steam is not able to keep this sim updated anymore. As an example, it took Steam nearly 3 weeks to automaticaly update the sim from 1.1.0.8 to 1.1.0.9 version in last august after patch release. Now the 1.1.1.0 is released since last mid november... Unless Steam is able to update from 1.1.0.9 to 1.1.1.1, which would be great, I doubt it will be for soon. I want to point out that I don't want to blame anybody since I don't know anything about how things are managed between Steam and other Editors. To conclude, If you bought the sim through Steam, you can do without Steam and update the sim by yourself by going to the DCS website and do a full instal of the latest version. The Steam key is all you need

you wil have a big problem if you tyr to join other servers on Steam, if you have a different version,, unless you run two copies, so you can have the version Steam uses, and a patched version...

I just play and don't bother worrying about it, as they maybe a few days late, but at least I can join the servers...

because everyone has the same version..

btw, I only use IL-2 Cliffs of Dovers on Steam, my Black Shark and A-10C are non Steam, so I patch my own and so does our squad..

imho

its strange that it takes so long for steam to update. Most games like Battlefield 3 do not lag this bad when it comes to updates. They are usually in line with their PS3 and Xbox updates. At the most they are 1 week late.

Massive games will be patched faster because they is going to be a hell of a lot more people complaining.

Hi Ramstein,

Thank you for your interesting remarks. In fact I run only one copy, I think. I had the Steam version 1.1.0.9 on two computers : the actual one and an older one which is more or less sleeping now since few weeks. I just removed the Steam version from the actual computer and did the full install of the 1.1.1.1 version from DCS website. It's fine so far, at least with SP missions. I really don't know if I could have problems in joining Steam servers (and the others ?) as I haven't tried yet. What's for sure is that I will never try to run the sim (or even Steam ?) on both computers at the same time.

Finally, I would just say that I was a bit nervous by doing this new instal as everthing was fine with the 1.1.0.9 Steam version and I didn't want to mess anything. But I remember of several posts here saying it's fine like this.

Time will tell.

I installed the download version (1.1.1.1) over my steam dcs directory (ran as admin). When i launch it with my steam button it seams to work and the splash screens say 1.1.1.1 not .9 Only when i select missions i have 2 Georgian hammer m campaigns to select 1 with a minor type o corrected. seeing this i checked my directory wich reads as 7.5 gigs so im not sure if i just dubbled my game size. tomorrow ill try to do the fresh install, after i figure out how to preserve my stick settings. Im sure ill find info on here

As a long time steam user i would like to share some knowledge about the subject. The servers you search for on a steam version will be the same that you search for with for in non steam copes. Now having difrent versions like 1.1.1.9. or 1.1.1.1 will cause problems. Some games, mainly valve and close partners, use steam's own matching and server systems like steamcloud for "counter strike" or "left for dead" but not in this case. Even DCS Protection is handled by starfoce activation.

As i understand it steam works like a web hosting company where they give you an account HDD space and a way to acess it to put you product and its updates. This is a super simple example of couse. but ive had this hapen with a game before and it turned out(via the games co forums) that the game developers had had a miscomunication with its Steam Rep or was unaware of what they needed to send steam. It may take a bit of us posting on both forums or submitting help tickets. In steams forums for other games Ive read the same explanation form other longtime users.

Id also like to agree with what somebody said above,i would probably not even flying this awesome sim if it wasn't fo the fact i was able to grab it on one of steams seasonal sales. Its not perfect and it has its down times... but so does my IsP and cell phone.

totally agree with you Snakeyez82. I work for a major video game company and understand how easy updating can be when the proper code is put in place, which i can almost guarantee that Steam has in place. It should be as easy as the patch getting uploaded, and steam flips the switch after review. In my company we do daily updates and we ask everyone to check in their new code (after code review and QA) and once everything is good to go, we will do a reboot of the servers.

So problem is Eagle Dynamics then, why they don't send latest files to Steam? It would be really good to have latest version on Steam too. Can we get an answer from ED please? Thanks.
