I'm trying to do the training mission on landing. When I try to talk to the ATC I press LAlt+Num+ to bring up the menu. F1 works to talk to the wingman but F5 doesn't. I've also tried using easy radio and it also doesn't work. I haven't messed with any of the key binds. Any ideas?

In normal mode, be sure to use the correct radio (AM) and set a proper frequency (from NAV/divert page or from the map). As for the easy mode - neve used it, so no idea..

Maybe something wrong with the mission, I had to repeat some because they have a tendency to hung up. Try a free flight mission instead (start on the runway, just to be sure that radio is powered), set up the freq and check if it works.

Well it seems to work on a free flight while on the ramp. Although I Never got answer back after requesting start-up. :/

Just a wild guess - you probably had one of the switches off and there wasn't enough power. If I remember correctly, you need to turn on the battery, inverter, both APU switches to on, and the AM radio to T/R mode. Otherwise you won't get any response, as the ATC won't hear you.

Just use the normal radio its easy...

AM; Front box; ATC/ AWACS/Tanker/ basically other aircraft in the air that are not part of your flight, a general airborne radio

UHF; Middle box; Your flight. (always 251?)

FM; Back box; JTAC, (usually 30 or 40?)

So usually you dont need to touch the UHF or FM boxes through the flight. You might need to change the FM if there is more than one JTAC.

You need to put in the frequency for who you want to talk to (ATC/AWACS/Tanker) in the front box and use the "AM" menu. So put in the freq for your ATC before you try and contact him. If you want to speak to AWACS then put in that freq.

You dont need to use the preset channels, just dial in the freq you want to speak on. But check the selector is not on the most clockwise setting otherwise the radio will use the channels reagardless of what you have in the dials. You generally want the setting that is one back from fully clockwise. Sorry not to hand so cant remember what it is called.

If using the normal radio method, take a note off the briefing screen what freqs for AWACS and JTAC.However 90% of the time it seems to be..

AWACS 124.000 (is VHF AM)

Flight 251.000 (is UHF)

JTAC 30.000 (is VHF FM)

You dont need to write down the ATC freqs because you can get these at any time for any airfield off the CDU DIVERT page.

I had exactly the same problem. I ended up deleting the folder in my user directory, re-installing and it fixed it. Bit of a hassle as had to set everything back up.

There might be quite a few reasons, but I would bet that it is some kind of a problem with triggers (or whatever is used) in the training mission.I had to run some missions a few times, because they just didn't want to advance, even though I did all I was asked to do. If F5 is active in a free flight, it is not the problem with bindings IMHO...

On the side note - yay - my first reputation point! How did I get it?

If I remember correctly, the last position is "PR" (just using the preset frequencies), the one before that was manual... but can't verify that. I miss my A10 when I am at work!

Idk who gave you the first point but I gave you one. I flipped on both APU's and checked everything else in the training flight and I could finally get more options talkin to ATC, still no answer though when i told them I was inbound or that I was lost.

Thanks for the point then :)

And as for the response - they usually answer when asked for navigation assistance, however if you ask for landing clearance too far from the runway, sometimes the ATC will just stay silent. The same is true if you ask for permission to take off too far away from the runway... but I will maintain that some of the training missions tend to be broken sometimes.

Anyways, good luck & if you have any more questions let me know - although there are many waay more experienced & very helpful people around here.

I was unable to speak to the ground crew with my A-10C,

I could communicate with the Tower..

it was a large base with all the equipment in place, refuelers, vehicles, etc...

I also have Tars and like it, but wonder if it still has bugs...

I had TeamSpeak go on and off with comm problems the other night with Tars running... and it is th elatest version,,

I have been making notes and diagrams with different radio setups, frequencies, and taking notes to make it easier to find the setups..

have to remember what is am/fm/grnd/ and haven't gone into presets yet..
