I like the skinless planes you have..

And my ship is sinking still can get the joystick to work..tested another stick a " Saitek SST220 " I can shoot the machine guns..but no pitch/roll...and all it did was spin to the ground...:joystick::joystick::mad:

If your stick is not producing correct input, knowing that it is working in other sims, re-calibrate it in windows control panel. We've had troubles with A-10C till we figured it was the mis-calibration issue. Be ye warned me matey!!!

AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

updated our facebook page with some tid bits thought a few here might be interested

testing our livery, all work in progress with many glaring errors, the skin is secondary to what im trying to get right at all times of day but is required as these birds look rather bland without much on them,

Also for these metallics i have a new hlsl file (shader functions) that is work in progress specificallly for these effects. and balanced with the texture effects i create.

One quick story regarding the real 332nd. Cutting ep 6 of 6 show on "air aces". I watched a bit of the interview from one of the other ep's from one of the pilots > forget his name, very articulate man though, just listening to him speak kept me on the edge of my seat.

Anyway he was describing his first flight in the new P51's as "terrifying". They basically gave them the planes, did a quick cockpit familiarization and were allowed to take off. One of his squad mates took her up first (full tanks) and immediately went into acrobatic maneuvers. Soon after he lost control of the plane and it augered into the ground, killing the pilot. The subject described his fear after watching that happen and did his test flight straight and level knees shaking the entire time. Later the accident was blamed on the rear fuel tank being full for throwing off the balance of the plane during acrobatics.

He did mention takeoff's being a pain in the ass due to torque, compared to the P40's, but he grew to LOVE the 51.

I'm definitely going to watch his entire interview when I get an hour or so, hearing the stories from the pilots vs historians is far more compelling.

Sadly the show doesn't feature any German aces, although for the first ep they did an extensive interview with one of the last remaining German aces, the whole thing is in German though so I couldn't understand it.

Canadian, American, British and even a Polish ace are featured though. Probably the most exciting part of the show is they actually went and shot aerials of the warbirds to mix in with the CGI (which is looking super impressive so far). So far they've got Spits, Hurri's, Lancaster, P51's coming and 47's.

Wow, thanks for that info..here's is another bit of info you may not know..you must have seen a Tuskegee Mustang with " By Request " and also the big number " 66 " the significance of the number " 66 " is the number of lost pilots killed in action during the campaign...

Also you have to look very hard to find this info..

The Brit's, American's and all other's called them the " Red Tail Angels " but the German's called them the " Red Devils " and feared going up against them in a dogfight...

Lt.Colonel Lee Archer was a decorated Ace

Lee Archer was the only "official" Ace to come out of the 332nd.. and actually .. By ReQuest was a P-51C .. it was rare in that it had the same tail filet that the Ds had..Most P-51Bs & Cs did not have that filet. It added stability to the AC. it was the personal aircraft flown by Col. Benjamin O. Davis and it bore the markings of the 301st F.S. 332nd F.G. The aircraft was designated as 66 because that was just how the numbers fell. It was a coincidence that that was also the same number of pilots killed in the line of duty. It was not etched in stone because a lot of times aircraft would go from one squadron to another within the F.G. and retain it's number while the markings would change to reflect the squadron but generally the numbers 50-69 I believe were set for the 301st.. The 302nd designatons were usually in the 70-80 range hence Archer, Pruitt, Gleed, and McGee among others .. all flew AC designated in the 70s. By ReQuest was destroyed in a crash at Ramitelli Airbase in 1945 while Col. Davis was home on leave. I never heard that the Germans called them red devils.. Perhaps redtailed devils.. but i do know that they called them "Schwartze Volgelmenschen" (Black Birdmen) .. and they came to fear and respect them as opponents.

I stand corrected, the passage I read only mentioned " Red Devils " , only shows...the twists and turns of the events during this time...either way these men were " Hero's "....

Absolutely.. I have a great deal of respect for all of them.. even the "enemy" pilots.. Imagine you are flying around in a metal box with wings.. and pulling Gs .. and fighting for you rlife.. I have had roller coasters give me a small tiny glimpse of what it must be like.. and I just have to go wow..

Yes this is one of the few surviving P-51Cs .. It's markings are not completely historic (the red tail of course and and the 302nd nose marking are.. but the A was used with the 99th.. ) however it was put together by the CAF (Commemorative Air Force) and I believe it was actually flown by Andrew "Jug" Turner of the 100th.. He flew Skipper's Darlin .... I don't know if that is Skipper's Darlin or not because Turner flew several aircraft with the 332nd.

SkipperDarlin.jpg

Tragically this aircraft was just recently rebuilt and was flown again in '09 after a crash in '04 which killed the pilot Don Hinz. I think the story goes that Don Hinz was instrumental in the birth of the Tuskegee project. Hinz took over the project at some point in the 90s I thin it was.. When the plane was acquired by the CAF at first no one knew where it came from but when he came on board Hinz did some research on the serial and when he found the plane's origins he pushed to start what became known as the Tuskegee project. He literally put his life into that project and died flying the plane.
