elproducto Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Just want to thank everyone for their help with the autopilot/flying. I managed to finish Death Valley after about 5 tries. Got 6 ground kills, and even dodged a Surface to Air missle which was exciting. Managed to RTB and even land the damn thing, although I think ATC was cursing me.. it wasn't pretty. I've got VIKHR and Cannon dialed in.. but need some serious work on rockets.
Jona33 Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Congrats. With rockets, use up half your pods for one vehicle if neccesary. They're stupid things and I hate them. I'd much prefer 24 vikhrs. Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing
Slazi Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Grats! It's a good feeling. Get some practice in and get onto mulitplayer soon, it's a great way to enjoy the game.
leafer Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 I've been simming forever and have never completed one single mission. Congrats, comrade elproducto. ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P
Puddlemonkey Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 I've got VIKHR and Cannon dialed in.. but need some serious work on rockets. Well Done  That was the first mission that I completed too I think. It's quite a good one. It took me about 20 attempts and was where I learned most things about the game. I think we all feel like we need serious work on rockets. I think the general opinion is to unload most of the pod in one go and if you get a kill, you've done ok! :joystick:

Flying the Rescuer mission in the deployment campaign, flying perfectly level, found the infantry with the skhval dead ahead of me. Pipper passed the circle on the HUD and I let fly with 2 whole pods worth while alternating between left right rudder to spread the rockets. That was great. Everything else has been a distinct failure. Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing

KosPilot Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Since I don't know where in the world you reside; choose a server with good ping for a start :) We have the TOG server here in Australia, and the 161st is quite active as well.
jaykinch Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 (edited) Hi all, After prob a 6 months or more having fun on BS i still not completed a mission now after reading this post about death valley i thought i would give it a go And now yeah baby i got my first mission under my belt now get in there lol Now i;ve just done the first mission of the new campai sky is the limit now lol P.S once you land and park the heli up am i right to just press ESC then goto quit to end mission or am i missing something only asking cos i just do that when im finished Edited February 20, 2012 by jaykinch
Yurgon Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 P.S once you land and park the heli up am i right to just press ESC then goto quit to end mission or am i missing something only asking cos i just do that when im finished I think that should be quite sufficient. Personally, I like to perform the whole shutdown procedure to add to the realistic feeling, but in terms of mandatory steps, this is not necessary to achieve mission success. In other words, do as you like. :-) Oh, and congratulations for finishing your first mission and lots of fun for the upcoming ones! :-)
elproducto Posted February 21, 2012 Author Posted February 21, 2012 Just an update, I'm on mission 8 of the deployment campaign and loving it. What a great mix of scripted events to keep you interested. Wish more sim campaigns were like this, not just a collection of missions.

Wish more sim campaigns were like this, not just a collection of missions. Yeah, the Deployment campaign is really well done. Mission 8, isn't that "On the other side"? That's a tough nut to crack, but rewarding like hell if you make it. :-) On my old rig in BS1 I'd almost finished GOW, which was very demanding and difficult, especially during the later stages with Apaches and Kiowas. While it's not as "specific" as Deployment, it's probably more "realistic" in terms of all out war. I've only just started the Medvedev II campaign that came with BS2, but those first 3 missions were done in the tradition of the Deployment campaign. If you have or can get BS2, that's something to look forward to once you've finished Deployment. BTW Deployment, I love BeachAV8R's After Action Reports on SimHQ. Reading them made me feel a little less noobish. :-)
Suchacz Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 If you like "Deployment" campaign, than you can try campaigns called "Detachement to Batumi" and "Republic". Both of them has good story and interesting missions, which are not difficult. Per aspera ad astra! Suchacz Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 I think they will work, in my case every BS1 mission that I tried has been working... BS2 has some new triggers, but I think that it supports all triggers from BS1 Per aspera ad astra!
