Jinja Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 I think you were sniped Cyber! :) Ok, thx both, I get it now. Very difficult to get those gameplay subtleties across in a video of 2 giant mechs wading through water at 10mph with laser-beams permanently etched onto opponents torsos! i7@3.5Ghz, ATI 5870, 16GB RAM, win7 64bit, TH2GO, Track-IR, 4screen pit, TM WArthog HOTAS
Pilotasso Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Its like a flight simulation with less of the 3rd dimention but more of the terrain masking ;) .
CyBerkut Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 I think you were sniped Cyber! :) Ok, thx both, I get it now. Very difficult to get those gameplay subtleties across in a video of 2 giant mechs wading through water at 10mph with laser-beams permanently etched onto opponents torsos! Indeed I was. That's OK though. If you have some time to kill, and want to know more, you can truck on over to http://mwomercs.com. The forums are highly active, but a lot of that should probably be skipped over. [ Lots of BattleTech fiction / tabletop game fans prattling on / whining / showing off their vast formidable knowledge of the arcane ]. The truly useful things to read at this point are the Developer Blogs and FAQs. One of the important take aways is that the developers are *true* BattleTech fans. It isn't just business for them (although they appear to be tending to that properly), but a real love for the concepts and lore. From what I can see so far, they have a great vision, and are making all the right moves. As long as they get the money side of it right, it looks like we're in for a lot of fun! Zakatak Posted March 14, 2012 Author Posted March 14, 2012 I think they could have used better looking gameplay. I assure you that it will be alot more interesting then 2 assault mechs slowly wading around the water, lasering eachother. Even though it is relatively simple compared to a DCS game (battlemechs not existing might be a reason for that...), but the realism and fidelity is certainly there. Example, if you stand in shallow water, you won't get a faster cooldown rate. Unless you mount heatsinks on your legs of course, which would give you that benefit. If you were to mount all your heatsinks on 1 arm,the weapons on that arm would have little affect on your heat, but the weapons on your other arm would be blisteringly hot. This is also the first mech game I know that includes ammo cookoff/capacitor bursting/etc. Good on the devs. I'll be in the Catapult. I'll soften you up from a kilometer, and then I'll swoop in with my jumpjets and DFA your shiny metal ass!
213 Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 some of these complaints are i don't know...grossly exaggerated? no, too harsh. i'll settle for just wrong. the game looks excellent, visual style, design, graphics, etc. i love how the lasers reflect on the water. and how lasers can literally slice the paint off the mechs and etch a groove on the armor. it's using cryengine 3 and it shows. beautiful game.
WynnTTr Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Don't flame for the following, because I have no experience with Mechwarrior or the gameplay elements.... But looking at the video, I don't get it. You have huge, slow-moving targets. It looks to the uninitiated like you just put your crosshairs on each other and keep holding your trigger finger down until one of you falls over. What am I missing!! Just like RL armored warfare? It's the same type of concept. Knock out the guy first.. I mean there's no tactics involved with that right? Just who has the heavier armored tank. Light recon vehicles would be useless etc..
shagrat Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 This is also the first mech game I know that includes ammo cookoff/capacitor bursting/etc. Good on the devs. Definitely Not! Pilotasso Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 I played a 3D accelerated version of MW2 that came with my PowerVR card back in the day. Turns out it was the only decent title that was made for it :D What a ripoff that hardware was. .
213 Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 yep, all they managed to come up with. totally looks like mw1 or something. 16bit graphics.
