lanmancz Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Hey, I just wanted to ask for explanation for this weird thing that happened to me several times now. When I create my own map (I usualy fly my own maps) with some dynamic weather (3 systems, strong winds) I sometimes find myself in a situation when my IAS goes rapidly up to 400+ kts. Even when I throttle back to idle my IAS still rises but after a while the plane starts stalling but my speed indicator shows 400+. Any idea what that is ? lanmancz Posted March 3, 2012 Author Posted March 3, 2012 (edited) Oh, does this mean my pitot tubes were frozen by icing and reading false information ? doh! You're probably right, I never turn that on :-) edit : now when I think about it it makes sense. It was one of my first winter missions with temperatures around zero. I used to be flying in nice spring weather so far. Thanks for help. badger66 Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 Dont forget the peter heater man !!! Ive heard that you can turn on the peter heater 6 minutes prior to take off ? I friend of mine reported a stall warning , while at 400 knots and diving , when his heater was off . So , yes , it works .

ralfidude Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 I have NEVER experienced any burn outs of the PITOT heater when flipping it on during start up. Ever. I do not believe it is modeled to burn out. [sIGPIC]http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b66/ralfidude/redofullalmost_zpsa942f3fe.gif[/sIGPIC]
