Hi,

I am just learning this game and reading all I can about it. I've convinced 2 people to get it already and we just had our first network session. Loving it!

One question, we are trying to figure out bombing with non laser guided bombs and one thing i can't figure out (forgive my lack of technical terms, I'm learning).

I set the bombs for CCRP mode and get them lined up, the longest line is where it should be in that little dotted circle at the top of the HUD. However, the other line with the retical sits on the far side of the HUD. If I try to line them up they are way off to the side, and I can't seem to make them meet in the middle.

What am i doing wrong??

Thanks!

Without seeing a track and with little information, I will assume you are to close to the target. Line up the target far away enough to give you time to stabilize leveled. If you do not have that much time try switching to CCIP instead. CCRP is better suited for internally guided munition anyway.

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

I always try to avoid CCIP as that tends to lead me in harms way. CCRP works just as well for dumb bombs as CCIP and I can stay out of reach of AAA and Iglas.

Same here, usually it is quite effective (especially if you put the wind data in the LASTE subpage of the CDU). And you won't get shot at by those damn MGs... last time I tried to do a CCIP run, I ended up being shot at by no less that 6 BMPs. And it didn't finish very well for me :music_whistling:

CCIP - RP mode? RP stands for role-play? ;)

Will try it out!

Without a track this is just a guess, but if you're coming from a simulator starring a different jet - say, an F-16 - you might be befuddled by the way CCIP and CCRP work in the A-10.

In other fighters, the CCIP pipper is roll stabilized, and the Bomb Fall Line (BFL) always falls vertically down from the Flight Path Marker toward the center of the Earth. Just imagine a string with a weight suspended at the end.

The long line with the circle at the top is called the Azimuth Steering Line (ASL), and is common to most fighters.

In the A-10, the little circle at the top of the ASL is called the CCRP Aim Point (CAP). The line attached to the CCRP reticle is called the Predicted Bomb Release Line (PBRL). It reacts to bank angle and load factor (g), but moves in the opposite direction than in other fighters. All you need to do in order to control the position of the PBRL is roll the airplane (and increase load factor, if necessary).

The goal is to align the PBRL with the CAP. This can be done in a wings-level fashion - which is what you are probably trying to do - or you can make a curvilinear delivery where you maintain a curved (banked) path. Either way is fine, and as long as the PBRL runs through the CAP, the bombs will release and hit the target.

Thanks for the replies, I haven't had time to play today but I will tomorrow. I'll post the track file for you all to see.

Basically I can get the long line, the ASL in the circle easily but the PBRL (thanks for the terms BlueRidgeDx) stays off to the side. I can get it close to the other line but never right over top and if I do align them perfectly then they are both off to one side.

Anyhow, I'll post that track file tomorrow and someone can point out my (probably very obvious) mistake.

You are not setting your target as SPI. The IFFCC is probably providing parameters based on the default SPI, in your case the default steerpoint if I had to guess, which would explain the behaviour you are experiencing.

That said, in the absence of a track, just a guess.

My track file is just over the size limit, how do I make a smaller one?

Always make a new, single mission, preferably air-start with a single ground- unit in the ME illustrating the problem. Will ensure less chance of playback errors and further save us a lot of time when investigating.

159th_Viper, you were right. Due to a comedy of errors I thought I had the bombing reticle set as the SPI but I really didn't. I flew around a lot and figured it out and now I know how to set the position I want to drop everything on.

One more system down, so many more to go! Thanks for your help everyone, I'm off to learn countermeasures next.
