shagrat Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 I'm somewhat tired of hearing "Colt 1-2", "Enfield 3-1", "Hawg 1-1" etc. all the time. I would like to see "more" Callsigns for Radio Comms. Easiest way might be to integrate the existing NATO-Alphabet from the radio comms, I guess. Just, an idea, but I think easy to implement, since the voice-overs are already in the sim. 1 Shagrat - Flying Sims since 1984 - Win 10 | i5 10600K@4.1GHz | 64GB | GeForce RTX 3090 - Asus VG34VQL1B | TrackIR5 | Simshaker & Jetseat | VPForce Rhino Base & VIRPIL T50 CM2 Stick on 200mm curved extension | VIRPIL T50 CM2 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Plus/Apache64 Grip | MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals | WW Top Gun MIP | a hand made AHCP | 2x Elgato StreamDeck (Buttons galore)
Boberro Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Why not, you have plenty letters to choose from. Perhaps it'd be implemented in soon patch I hope ^^ Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
Speed Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 (edited) No, I don't think the NATO alphabet is used very often, if EVER, in aircraft callsigns. I cannot remember a SINGLE recording of them using the NATO alphabet for fixed-wing aircraft. If someone does dig one up, I would probably be able to find dozens of videos where they use something else. If you ever flew Falcon 4, you'll know it has a great list of callsigns. Instead of the NATO alphabet, which would sound bad and be unrealistic, just get Falcon 4's callsign list by aircraft (because, some aircraft types or categories had (and HAVE in real-life, too- there will never be an F-16 flight callsign Buff or Texaco, for example) callsigns that were specific to them), and make some new recordings. We need special callsigns for aircraft types too. We already have them for AWACs and Tankers, (and I think Predator drones) but, IRL it extends to other aircraft types as well, such as "Buff" for B-52s, "Bone" for heavy bombers (possibly including the B-52, but I donno). IMO, it sounds pretty silly to hear a B-52 identify itself as "Enfield", and it actually kills the immersion a little bit for me. Not only that, they've all got the same voice :( Edited March 5, 2012 by Speed Intelligent discourse can only begin with the honest admission of your own fallibility. I don't have a clue what I'm doing
shagrat Posted March 5, 2012 Author Posted March 5, 2012 Agreed, but that is a lot more work :D If we have the chance to get a full blown Callsign list according to Aircraft Type or mission specifics, that would be awesome. For starters I would be happy to have the Alphabet, though :P Shagrat - Flying Sims since 1984 - Win 10 | i5 10600K@4.1GHz | 64GB | GeForce RTX 3090 - Asus VG34VQL1B | TrackIR5 | Simshaker & Jetseat | VPForce Rhino Base & VIRPIL T50 CM2 Stick on 200mm curved extension | VIRPIL T50 CM2 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Plus/Apache64 Grip | MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals | WW Top Gun MIP | a hand made AHCP | 2x Elgato StreamDeck (Buttons galore)
Frostiken Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 DCS: F-15E needs to make sure it has 'Dude' available :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Mojeaux Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 "DUDE" DUDE= "A tick on a horses' ASS!" mouhaha [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Frostiken Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 DUDE= "A tick on a horses' ASS!" mouhaha .... wat? Dude is the callsign all F-15Es in Afghanistan fly under. The JTAC calls, the dude abides. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

shagrat Posted March 7, 2012 Author Posted March 7, 2012 We need the integration of the Brevity codes on DCS saga http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brevity_code Hmm, not exactly. Brevity is already included in most of the radio calls. It's more about the aircraft's callsigns. A reference maybe this list: http://www.the-guide.nl/callsign/ or this one: http://members.chello.nl/~rt_postma/afcallsigns.html or here: http://www.ominous-valve.com/callsign.txt ...but as I said, this will require a lot of new voice recordings and integration work. So, yes, it would be far better than just the NATO-Alphabet, but the later may be integrated "quick-and-dirty", giving us more options in mission design. ;) Shagrat - Flying Sims since 1984 - Win 10 | i5 10600K@4.1GHz | 64GB | GeForce RTX 3090 - Asus VG34VQL1B | TrackIR5 | Simshaker & Jetseat | VPForce Rhino Base & VIRPIL T50 CM2 Stick on 200mm curved extension | VIRPIL T50 CM2 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Plus/Apache64 Grip | MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals | WW Top Gun MIP | a hand made AHCP | 2x Elgato StreamDeck (Buttons galore)
Frostiken Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 (edited) http://members.chello.nl/~rt_postma/afcallsigns.html Just FYI that's terribly out of date. Looked up some known callsigns and they're the wrong airframe, wrong unit, and in one case, the wrong base. http://www.ominous-valve.com/callsign.txt Is better. I find some of those callsigns a little odd - like having both 'Duke' and 'Duck', since both will sound almost the same on the radio... Edited March 7, 2012 by Frostiken [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
