Zeth Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Hi everyone, I'm quite new to the Flight Sims world and in particular to the DCS series. Now, I've went through all the tutorials and manuals and I'm quite familiar with the A-10 systems and weapons, but I keep struggling upon completing missions in the Georgian Hammer campaign (standard one I guess?) The mission (or missions) usually requests that I give air support to a given ground unit usually labeled as "Blade, Cactus or whatever" as they move towards an objective. What I usually do is fly through the flightplan, on fence I start fencing procedures and then on IP I slew my TGP towards the given "TARGET" steerpoint. That's where I get lost completely, how am I supposed to find the targets I need to eliminate? I even make MAP screenshots before I go in the mission to have some kind of guide or something but that's not enough most of the times. I have no problems doing the "Intercept blah company or strike bridge" but the missions I described give me lots of troubles :/
Greygoose Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Welcome Zeth You'll find lots of references to completing mission objectives if you use the search option on this fantastic forum Good Luck Goose

Second eliminate all Tanks on or near this route, if possible all IFVs (BMP1/2/3), also. If available call the JTACs they usually provide locations of tanks... but do not solely rely on them! Look at the roads your own Tanks and IFVs use, then keep harm away from them, that's basically the task. EDIT: You have to signal the movers, that their approach is clear (F10 - Radio menu). Be careful not to give the "all clear" too soon. Tanks, even T-72s are your Bradley IFVs doom. Make use of your wingman, SEAD and additional CAS flights, also. Zeth Posted March 6, 2012 Author Posted March 6, 2012 Roger, I'm gonna try and follow your tips ! Thanks for the kind help.
baltic_dragon Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Use your TAD - you will often see targets of other flights there marked with the white "cake" symbol. Just hook them, make your SPI and target with your TGP. You could also use your wingman, by ordering him to engage armor - he will broadcast his SPI to you, so you hook it and then call him off (so he doesn't do anything stupid). I know that you exploit the super-human abilities of your wingman, but for me it is compensation for possibility to better communicate with other flights in RL.. Depth Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Yeah I think the TGP of the wingman zooms in on the target much like your own does when you slave all sensors to SPI. I also think that when he aquires a new target his head moves like this: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
baltic_dragon Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 Yeah I think the TGP of the wingman zooms in on the target much like your own does when you slave all sensors to SPI. And when it does he excitedly shouts on the radio where he found the target, effectively interrupting any other radio chatter you might be interested to hear :thumb up: I also think that when he aquires a new target his head moves like this: :megalol: He must have quite a strong neck, turning at you with this expression 59 times during every mission For more information, please visit my website. Zeth Posted March 11, 2012 Author Posted March 11, 2012 Thanks to everyone, your suggestions and tips provided great help! Also I didn't know that TGP had a built in Auto-Tracking mode, it also helped greatly. One more question to you A-10ers, is it possible to fly SP mission as a wingman instead of lead? If so, how ?
Fish Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 (edited) .......is it possible to fly SP mission as a wingman instead of lead? ....... Don't believe so. Only ever been able to choose a 'player' from 'unit 1 of .....' units. But you could make another flight, and 'tag along'. You wont be getting requests from it though, you will just be a different flight. Think the 'Group ID' is in the sequence of the flights created, so you could even join the net for the other group, and get the radio chatter. Not sure about spi's and stuff.
