Nate--IRL-- Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 Leafer I'm amazed that you've been around here as long as you have and never seen TACview before. Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading
leafer Posted April 7, 2012 Author Posted April 7, 2012 Huh. Color me bozo. I've heard of it but never paid attention to it. Jeez. Yeah, when I see TacView, JTAC or the likes in thread title I usually skip it. Man, I feel stupid. Thanks, mods. ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P
cichlidfan Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 TacView is not scary!:D In fact it is free and very cool. Works with BS2 as well. Harzach Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 The great thing about it is that once you have it installed and configured (which is very easy), you never need to fuss with it again. Tracks are recorded/stored automagically.
jeffyd123 Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 i scare myself when i think of using tacview... or if it ever fell into the hands of Iran or maybe another evil place like Hawaii. i7 8700K @ 4.4Ghz, 16G 3200 RAM, Nvidia 1080Ti, T16000 HOTAS, TIR5, 75" DLP Monitor
leafer Posted April 7, 2012 Author Posted April 7, 2012 lol All those blue on blue you're not telling anyone about. I'm scared everyone will ignore me cuz this tool effectively as well as rapidly approve how bad I suck. :D Tacview is great, btw. Anyone bought the full version? ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P
Tucano_uy Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 Leafer, for you to know. After you install TacView you may have integrity check fails in some multiplayer servers, as it modifies a .lua file (don't remember which one) so DCS or FC exports the required data. The workaround is to deactivate TacView recording when you want to go online. There, I saved you a headache...
cichlidfan Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 Tacview is great, btw. Anyone bought the full version? Except for the unreleased "advanced telemetry" feature I couldn't see a need for it. Depending on what the new feature(s) do I would consider it. leafer Posted April 7, 2012 Author Posted April 7, 2012 (edited) This is really an excellent piece of software to study your tactics or lack there of - in my case. I can see why I got shot and how I could have avoided being pruned with lead. This ought to be a lot more fun with BS2. Watching my hapless self drifting all over the place trying to hover. Grimes Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Its very useful to look at the "big picture" of a given scenario and it tends to add an extra layer of understanding to the mission. I have some of the old FC1 Red Flag missions on tacview which is amazing to watch with 40+ other attempting to complete whatever their objective is. Even had a few "I can't believe that happened" moments that were revealed by tacview. One time my wingman and I in 25Ts got within 5km of 3 enemy Su-33s who were nose cold trying to sneak through a deadzone in our radar coverage. It does seem that the tacview support for DCS A-10 isn't quite perfect yet. I've noticed alot of static objects aren't exported and some of the vehicles show up as "Leopard-2" even when they aren't, not to mention its totally confused by the new cluster bombs. Someone posted a Tacview track a while ago for some reason or other - I remember watching it for the intended reason, but then noticing some other action going on in the background. There were 3-4 completely unrelated dramas going on that were simply fascinating to see unfold in parallel. Is there a community Tacview archive somewhere? I'd never watch TV again!
Grimes Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Not sure, I've seen a few players post links to tacviews occasionally here on the forums and someone is bound to have a collection of the tacviews from some of the previous Red Flag events.
