mxmadman Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 Hello all! This is my first post, so the obligatory thanks to all the great posters and Youtubers out there who've helped me make the learning process of this complex sim very enjoyable. Fish is the only name that comes to mind (most likely because it is one syllable), but there plenty of others. I'm planning to jump into multiplayer tonight after work and this weekend, and am looking for pointers to help me with any pitfalls that folks out there on 'the internets' have already run into. First, I'm confused on how MP actually works. Do I need to join a server before a mission starts in order to be a part? Are there specific server types where I can simply jump in an ongoing mission and serve some sort of purpose? Do I need to be a part of a wing in order to get the full suite of features available, or does the solo pilot get the same enjoyment? I imagine the answer is: join a squad, so in that vein, are there any newb oriented squads out there that focus more on training then an 'average' squad? If so, if you could point me in that direction it would be appreciated. I've had a look at the different lists in the forums here, but it seems most are not actually focuses on the a-10c, and are from years ago. Also, any general tips would be great on things that I may not have learned in SP. I'm fairly competent in start-up, flight, and munitions. Thanks in advanvance for any tips thatsmooth the transition for me. See you all in the skies! P.s. posting from my phone I sorry for typos and bad grammar.
Tailgate Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 It's fun though I haven't been up lately. I think initially you'll find several Public servers available on the Server list. The key is to find one that has the lowest ping rate for better stability. Fly around , meet the folks via chat and I'm sure they'll be able to help you out. There are also several virtual squadrons that you can check out that provide organized training, etc.
MTrenda Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 The 76th server is not password protected so it is open for all to join and fly. Currently the Seperatist Aggression mission is running which is a slow paced mission, meaning that additional missions are not triggered until the completion of the current mission or request of a Multi Player pilot. Each mission has different level of dificulty so something for everyone (thanks to Greywolf for creating the original mission). We also use Speeds SLMOD so you can interact with the mission and do not need to be there at the bigging you can fly for an hour and return several hours later if you like. Just type '-stl' to show the task list and then '-st<taskNumber>' to get the details. The mission briefing has all the information to get connected to Teamspeak and chat with the current flyers along with our website for other info. Please enjoy the server and feel free to ask any of the flyers questions they are all very helpful. Sarge55 Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 Hi mxmadman, welcome to the forums. First here's a link to the squadron directory which should help get you going on the various virtual squadrons; http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=34062 When first going online you'll need to sign into the master server then you will see the various servers available. Some will be locked but if you go to their websites or get on TS they will generally give out the password, unless they are doing some internal training or scrims. On that note make sure you have TeamSpeak set up and with the mike set as PTT. It's always a good idea to get on the servers TS if it's available, it will help with coordination and you can ask your questions, most guys will help you out, if possible. Oh, one other thing. You will not always see the same servers on all the time, they will come and go. Good luck out there.... Wrecking Crew Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 mxmadman, How was it? Your first time, I mean :-) Make sure your text chat keys are set up - there is one for text to all, and another for text to allies. Also the ' key lets you see who is in the mission. Don't wait too long to find a server that advertises a Teamspeak channel. Lots of great discussions, and Q&A. WC Visit the Hollo Pointe DCS World server -- an open server with a variety of COOP & H2H missions including Combined Arms. All released missions are available for free download, modification and public hosting, from my Wrecking Crew Projects site.

I've been in teamspeaks, it seems basically recessary. Thanks for your help guys! One thing I want to work on is teamwork. So far I've just been becoming familiarized, and I've learned how to join net groups and share SPI's, but I want to find a place to fly in formation and attack specific targets. A more strctured environment if you will. Any further suggestions specific to that would be great. Thanks again.

Nearly all my flying's MP these days. http://en.wiki.eagle.ru/wiki/Virtual_Squadrons_and_Regiments Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing
mxmadman Posted April 29, 2012 Author Posted April 29, 2012 The best server out there imo ..... thanks for putting it up and letting me play . very cool indeed :) I've tried finding this server, 76th Open Recruitment each time I log on to play (in these few days) and I've not found it. Is this not a dedicated server, or am I doing something wrong? As far as I can tell there are no filters available. I'm certainly available to joining a squad also, but trying to find one that matches up with a server I see available, and actually flying with folks first. Only been a few days so I'm not in too much of a hurry, but if anyone out there reading this and is in a North American timezone oriented squadron and is interested in picking up a newbie, please let me know. Aside from that I will surely be going through the wiki and trying to find one as well, but id much prefer joining one by actually meeting someone first - call me old fashioned. ;) Thanks again.
MTrenda Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 the ip address is: 67.49.89.232 sorry it only stays in the list for an hour before it vanishes. not sure the issue, so you will have to join by ip. it will then be in your history and you can attach from there. thanks Capt. Wrecking Crew Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 mxmadman, A loose knit bunch of pilots fly on Eno's Firehouse server - that is where I hang out. We've seen where the server will be listed in the DCS Multiplayer Lobby under Internet, but then it won't be there later. If you've joined a server but don't see it listed later, choose the History option to see if the desired server is listed there. Eno's Firehouse is new - been running it for about a month now. You can use the IP address to connect to servers, too, like MTrenda gives an IP address out for their server, above. Eno's Firehouse is at 70.79.187.158:10308. See you on-line! BadK Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Hey Madman, Great flying around with you the other night. MP is a much better experience, I think. I've learned a lot since trying it out. Nice to have other people involved with the same event rather than sitting quietly alone trying to figure this beast out. Did y'all find the rest of those SAMs? Hey WC! mxmadman Posted May 3, 2012 Author Posted May 3, 2012 Hey Madman, Great flying around with you the other night. MP is a much better experience, I think. I've learned a lot since trying it out. Nice to have other people involved with the same event rather than sitting quietly alone trying to figure this beast out. Did y'all find the rest of those SAMs? Hey WC! Thanks and you too. Multiplayer is great! I found the 76th open recruitment server and hooked up with one of their guys, TrueAlph, and a guy named Whadupman in teamspeak. The two of them basically gave me a two hour free lesson which was invaluable, especially regarding countermeasures. I no longer tuck tail whenever I see a SAM, and my SA improved greatly in those two hours. Looking forward to settling down and finding my group. The community isn't making things easy on me since anyone I've run in to is very nice and willing to help, so its harder to narrow it down. This, by the way, is not normal for any gaming communities, including other sims. Now that I'm fairly competent the game becomes more fun each time I log in. To all the newbies out there, I recommend learning countermeasures IMMEDIATELY and sticking that thing on Semi mode. This has to be one of the most crucial things I've learned so far and its not as complex as I originally though. Thanks again to all the folks who've helped me, it has not gone unappreciated.
