Conure Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Hey guys, Just had an email telling me the new Ivybridge CPU is in stock here. I've had a google but can't find any solid benchmarks versus the Sandybridge 2500k! Anyone know how this compares?? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-407-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=567 Intel i7 6700k, Asus GTX1070, 16gb DDR4 @ 3200mhz, CH Fighterstick, CH Pro Throttle, CH Pro Rudder Pedals, Samsung Evo 850 SSD @ 500GB * 2, TrackIR 5 and 27" monitor running at 2560 * 1440, Windows 10.
emenance Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 (edited) An overclocked 2500k just about beats it. Its about 130 bucks more for this compared to an i2500k. Its better at multithread games an apps but then again so is the 2600k that would just about match the ivy bridge. The realease is good news for Laptops. Its a big YAWN for desktops. Read comments too. http://pcper.com/reviews/Processors/Intel-Core-i7-3770K-Ivy-Bridge-LGA1155-Processor-Review There is some really stupid stuff going on at manufactures of cpu and mb. The whole x79 setup for example is an overpriced and complete waste of time and money. Pilotasso Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Ivy bridge can execute more per clock than Sandy, however sandies can overclock higher. Even thought Ivy has a lower thermal output, Intel opted for a cheaper glued (VS soldered) CPU heat spreader. The result is that they heat up higher during overclocks than Sandies. Justs choose whatever is cheaper for you. Invest on a good aftermarket cooler. You will need it on either CPU if you wish to overclock. .
*Rage* Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Cant decide between the two!! I have a Zalman CNPS10X quiet (Good mid range cooler). Id be happy with 4.5/4.6 Ghz overclock on either. Both are the same price (within a few £s of each other) here in the UK. Upgrading from C2D @ 3.6ghz. Was hoping to get a cheap i52500k after IB release but unfortunately prices are the same as it seems IB has dissapointed overclocking expectations. Will my zalman be able to overclock the IB to 4.5? Which to go for? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 64th "Scorpions" Aggressor Squadron Discord: 64th Aggressor Squadron TS: 195.201.110.22
HiJack Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Alle the negative publisity the Ivy Bridge got for this heating problem made me wanna wait for a fix. I'm sure Intel will not continue distribution with that pasta (cheep pasta between core and shielding). (HJ)
Druid_ Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 (edited) The cheap pasta (thermal paste) as you call it has nothing to do with it http://www.eteknix.com/news/ivy-bridge-heat-problems-remain-even-after-ihs-removal/ If you have a sandy bridge and running at 5Ghz then there really is little reason to upgrade to ivy bridge unless you want to consume a little less power and/or take advantage of some of the Z77 chipset/ivy bridge features. I'm running a i7-920 so will probably jump on this intel 'tock' especially since my daughter needs a new pc (I.e. my current one). I like the features and processor power available on this cpu & z77 chipset.
