213 Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 i was just wondering if this was normal, but looking at explosions caused by submunitions dispenser, my fps dropped to the negative range. as in for a few seconds the game just froze. it doesn't matter what distance. as long as the explosions are rendered, the game freezes for a few seconds. if you're looking away from it, there's no problem. almost all explosions cause this stutter, except most explosions happen in less quantity. but submunitions dispensors release hundreds of small bomblets. if this isn't just on my end, is there a solution for this? perhaps a simplified explosion model for submunition dispensors?
EtherealN Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 WIP, beta. :) There are new explosion effects and they probably require some optimizations. Oh, and I doubt you got "negative" FPS... That would mean your game is running backwards... :P [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
213 Posted May 1, 2012 Author Posted May 1, 2012 i read in another thread someone was talking about cluster bombs giving single digit frames, and he mentioned a potential solution about different explosion effect for cluster bombs/submunition dispensers. i think that would work. currently, explosions are more of less procedurally generated. each weapon is assigned a few values such as explosion radius, size, dust generation, etc. for a cluster bomb or submunitions, the game renders a few hundred instances of smaller versions of those same particle effects, nearly simultaneously.
EtherealN Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Like I said: optimizations pending. 71st_Mastiff Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 thanks Nate I was having the hardest time that YouTube code "any failure you meet, is never a defeat; merely a set up for a greater come back", W Forbes. 71st_Mastiff Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 the bomb-lets is the 250 PTAB 2.5. those should easily take out the M2's and Vulcan. "any failure you meet, is never a defeat; merely a set up for a greater come back", W Forbes. upupandaway Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Also, not all explosion effects of bombs have been changed in this particular BETA. I noticed this one, too, and of course it will be interesting to see how this develops in the future (A-A, GBU etc.). [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Deedle, deedle!
Witchking Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 So pleasing to me to that ED finally decided that its time to rework the explosion and fire effects. YES!! Please ED... keep doing what u guys are doing. Take ur time and work at the effects a bit more. Especially the smoke from missiles as well. I know other games are different, but look at effects from some of the mods for ARMA 2, BF3. Yes..they are different genres...different CPU/GPU overheads...but always good to get inspiration from a variety of places.
