An interesting page from a WWII P-51D manual (found online). If your having trouble getting off the ground try using less power. The manual from 1944 recommends 40in MP and 3000 RPMs. The current FM won't give you 3000 RPMs at 40in MP (closer to 2800) so just use 45in MP to help reduce the P-factor.

that was my approach given the jerky nature of my HOTAS rudder input even after curve and DZ adjustment. Now, all takeoffs and landings at just 120, at 3 pt attitude. Also, if you extend the flaps all the way down, you can easily pull up a lickle past 120. And the rudder trim issue, I never cross 2 degrees, and I ALWAYS trim to tail heavy 2 degrees, with or without full fuel...

Also note "auto rich", suggesting an early model.

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

That is what we have been saying since day 1: Take her up to 42 inHg and she'll fly herself off the ground with no shenanigans :)

Funnily enough I find it easier (if I use the standard 5 degrees of rudder trim) to go full power. Seems to balance better.

Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing

Right on, didn't know that. But with more and more IL-2 fans buying the pony from here it probably doesn't hurt to be repetitive. :)

I've noticed that takeoffs are so easy now that I wonder why my first few were so ugly. I now understand that I am noticing yaw, and correcting it, much faster now. Trim, no trim, full power, reduced, full RPM, 2700, flaps--none of them make a bit of difference. Its all about getting your feet to work again.

I suspect what works for one guy and the other, not, is the variations as to the PC used, its setup, and the controllers used, and if online, ISP used, download / upload speed, and ping rate / jumps in between me and the server I am using.

My fix works for me (Beta 2):

===================

No flaps used.

5 degrees right rudder trim

5 degrees right aileron trim, maybe a bit less, as on 2 wheels I am not there very long.

1 or 2 degrees up elevator trim

Full power firewalled at 100 mph, but gradually increased.

I finally got her up on a two wheel takeoff.

Once in the air, wheels up. I suspect wheel damage may occur over 170 mph.

I have a button set to reset all trim to zero, but get some altitude 1st. Then trim as necessary.

I am trying to cut back my Axis Tune to zero for each of the 3 controllers, as I feel-out this P-51D.

One notch of flap makes it a lot easier, but the DCS Flight Manual says it was not used unless it was heavy.

Please implement the 5 minute limit on WEP so engine damage will occur if left on over that. And limit the actions of the hotshot pilots flying with full power always on.

Or is it the intention of the P-51D model to be used just as a dogfighting outlet, screw the reality of it?

Thanks Viper.

I realize it is a WIP.

I sometimes experience a right wing snap roll even at high speeds.

Separately, I have temporary carburetor hiccups, delays, maybe starving for gas, and I am not inverted. Seems to be related to throttle settings, rpm usually full on. Normal?

I use Wags quick start-up directions. I leave the carb ram air always on.

Mixture too rich?

I have the Mixture Control lever set at run.

It is great to kill the engine to over-rich, if you want to slow down fast to cause an overshoot! So far, I can restart it back up. But it is a risky move if you need to get moving again quickly.

There are some really good sim combat pilots in MP. These guys have been around awhile flying other sims. Yet, they start in the air because they have problems taking off.

It's all because of WIP engine. The acceleration pump must be tested and tuned so we still have no time to do it properly... that's a price of true modelling :) as the heat distribution model is ready we will polish other minor bugs.
